You may remember that we had a discussion about Dawlish putting in a bid as a Portas Pilot town (see https://www.dawlish.com/forum/item.aspx?id=20678).).
Well, as part of the bid, a video has to be made explaining why Dawlish should be selected. This video is due to be made tomorrow, that's Friday 16th March. Meet 11.30am at The Lawn.
Lots of people needed. (Hope the weather isn't like it is today!)
Rumours, rumours, rumours. It's a good job everyone hasn't got your 'it's a waste of time' attitude!! Good luck to Lynne and the Dawlish Transition group and everyone else determined to DO something to improve Dawlish.
Who do you think you are Nelson nobody allowed bar you to express an opinion!!! read my post I said I know it has to be tried but think its too little to late the writing is on the wall, and I have not got an attitude you have. I have read your posts and rude replies to people just because Im new to the forum doesnt mean I dont know what you are like. This Portas bid should have been in place 12mnths ago when there was still chance to save the town before Sainsburys opened, theres nothing left on our "High St" now. Perhaps I should go now before you finish me off!!!
Not so much negativity, people. Get down to the Lawn tomorrow at 11.30 am & show 'em what Dawlishians are made of!
Rumour-mongers and doom-sayers do Dawlish no favours whatsoever. Please do not try to make this thread about me, roberta, it's about improving Dawlish. If the Portas 'bid' could have been put in place 12 months ago, I'm positive that the good folks who are making the effort now, would have done so then. In my opinion.
Just to point out that the Portas bid couldn't have been in place 12 months ago as the Portas scheme didn't exist then. It is a new idea.
Exactly Lynne. Good luck for tomorrows video shoot and for the presentation as a whole. Whatever the putcome, it won't be for a lack of trying.
Well, some people got together on the Lawn, just, eventually, at the 11th hour (or so it seemed).
Although to be fair to many who may well have liked to have attended, a Friday morning isn't a good time if you are at work Mon-Fri and it didn't help that the e-mail telling everyone about this photo-shoot and that it was going to happen today was sent out with less than 24 hours notice (I've seen the original e-mail so I know when and what time it was sent).
So, all of that probably explains why we only had the one councillor there (Ted Hockin). People and other councillors may quite genuinely not have known about the shoot or have had prior engagements preventing them from attending. As I say, very, very, short notice was given and at one stage it was almost abandoned with the idea that the whole thing should be reconvened for next Friday (which would have given more time for word to get around and for the kids from the schools to get involved etc etc).
But, as I write this, video is now done and there should also be a photo in next week's Gazette.
Though as I say.......pity more notice hadn't been given.
I haven't seen much about this scheme - what would being chosen give Dawlish? This is genuine interest, nothing sarcastic!!
Money towards its regeneration plus an input from Mary Portas so I guess a knock on effect could also be free publicity for Dawlish.
There is a lot of competition locally, here in the south west, to be one of the chosen 12 let alone goodness knows how many towns entering from elsewhere in the country!
