'Also if a social tenant moved into a smaller property in the private sector if they were lucky enough to qualify for them more benefit would be payed towards the rent as its higher' This comment is completely wrong because people do not understand how Housing Benefit (HB) is calculated, housing benefit is now called LHA (Local Housing Allowance)by most local authorities. Let me give you a ...
People who receive Housing Benefit have this limited so are expected to find accomodation within this price bracket or pay the difference themselves if they want a larger property. This so called tax, addresses that imbalance. EG a person receiving HB, depending where they live, will be allowed a certain amount of money, a couple will receive more money than a single person as they would ...
Not again!!!!! The urban legend about supermarket fuel being 'different', complete nonsense, this urban legend dates back to 2007: Back in 2007, there was a problem with Tesco and Morrisons petrol. It caused engine problems for some customers, and the supermarkets compensated them. The problem was caused during shipment of fuel in a tanker between the Vopak tank farm in Rotterdam and ...
Another resignation after being admitting fraud as an MEP. http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2013/jan/21/denis-macshane-expenses-investigation-reopened However, I knew someone who did very well out of UN building contracts and said such contracts went to the person who offered the biggest bribe. He was also able to get his money paid out in almost any country in any currency. Nothing ...
All the dispatches programme pointed out is that people can't be bothered to actually work out the cost of goods per weight and believe the supermarket 'offer' signs. I simply compare the price by weight and having bought a lot of veg till recently know that many supermarket prices are often half the cost of buying from a small shop, look at the price of bananas, sweet potatoes as 2 examples. ...
As one of the Olympic drug testing team said before the recent games, athletes are now always one step ahead of the testers and he didn't expect to 'catch out' any of the major athletes at the Olympics even though he implied he expected the majority would be using drugs. Lance Armstrong had over 500 negative drug tests, so what does this say about the hundreds of drug tests being 'passed' by ...
My cynicism of 'modern' greenies is based on the actions of govt, here and elsewhere. Whilst working in a govt dept in the UK there were notices all over encouraging workers to turn down the heating to 18deg at home yet the building was uncomfortably hot as the building manager explained govt regs meant he had to maintain the heating at 22deg, despite complaints from workers being too warm. Many ...
£12000 for 47 taps, there must be some very happy plumbers out there. Hasn't this story been 'leaked' early, ie should have been 1st April. The only way water will prevent violent crime is when it comes out of a water cannon.
High Streets shops don't die because of large supermarkets, they die because nobody uses them, ie you and me, their ex-customers. What about the 'demise' of the large dept stores, many are gone I was told, but no, we have more large dept stores than ever, they are now called Sainsburys, Tescos, Asda etc etc. Old style wasteful inefficient and badly stocked dept stores lost their customers, ie you ...
Just been around Bristol and Bath and saw petrol price varies by 5p a litre between filling stations on the same road just 3kms apart, and both places busy so even where there is plenty of competition price variation is amazing. Cheapest was ASDA 128,7p a litre which they gtee to keep I think till the new year.
