General Discussion

Thanks Carer, they certainly do spend much of the day on the Exe estuary but then leave every evening. My enquiry is about where they spend the night. Have you visited the Teign estuary in the late evening or night?

Thanks Flo and Daverc, Teign estuary is a likely area. I will have to get there early in the morning (or late evening) when I visit next summer. Best regards.

Thanks O.F. for the link but it describes the migration habits of the species rather than the daily habits of a local flock. I was more interested in where the Warren flocks (are they brent geese?) go to every evening and obviously spend the night. I imagine It would likely be near water but protected from predators such as foxes and safer than staying near Dawlish Warren. Best regards.

I had asked this question during our recent visit to Dawlish Warren.  Answers varied but none seemed confident. We saw the huge numbers of geese arriving from the south every morning then returning south each evening but where do they go to?

Hi dobbsydotcom, thanks for your rapid response to my query. I had found a brief mention of the pier during Google searches (from  the Southampton Geo. site) but no details. Your links will hopefully provide what i need. Best regards. AW

I am trying to find information on the remains of what appears to be the supports of a peir or jetty just to the north of the rock. A double row of stumps are visible at low water and my attempts to trace their history online have been fruitless. I am hoping that one of the senior citizens of Dawlish will have some knowledge of the history of these remnants. Anthony Wilkes.
