THE APPEARANCE of a 36m high observation wheel on Teignmouth seafront took many in the resort by surprise. Similar wheels are features in many seaside towns and there was previously a version at Dawlish Warren.

ONE of the breeding pairs of Black Swans in Dawlish has begun laying eggs again. Rosie and Bluey have lost all their eggs laid so far as well as one chick which did hatch. Now they have a total of five more eggs laid on a nest which has been built on what could be a vulnerable position.
A TRAIL celebrating railway engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s railway is being relaunched in Dawlish. Do they not realise that so called clean water is not what enters the surface drains when it rains, but all the oil and petrochemicals from the roads that have been absorbed from motor vehicles and site equipment running back and forth to The Lawn.

I wonder what next major work will be scheduled for Dawlish in the coming year to increase the amount of disturbance to the economy/tourism. I expect it will involve construction, concrete and closing off roads and possibly digging up or building on The Lawn!

THE FOOTPATH along Dawlish sea wall has now fully reopened a week ahead of schedule. The path was battered by two consecutive storms in February which also left a void at Sprey Point in Teignmouth and a sink hole at Buddy’s Cafe.

A Teignmouth man has been reunited with a South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) crew member who helped save his life. Peter Grimsey, now 68, collapsed while training in a pool at Dawlish Leisure Centre on 16 April 2025.
