Anyone know what it is used for these days? I know it used to be a boys' boarding school - Dawlish College I believe it was called - and I think Forestry Commission offices are now sited there but does it have any other functions? Who owns it?
Oops! How remiss! re:New housebuilding in Dawlish - I forgot to mention the 58(?) dwellings being built on the site of Treston House ( between Eastcliff Road and Newlands) and the 61 dwellings being built at the Sandpiper developement in Dawlish Warren. So that's 58+61 aleady being built already plus 144+251 with planning permission to be built. That equals er........514. Say average occupancy of ...
Slagging Dawlish? ( I'll assume that's what you said). Who's slagging Dawlish? Quite the contrary. That's what these posts of mine (and others) are all about. It's because we care about it. We need to be aware of all the issues, all the pros and cons if you like, so that we can think carefully about its future. Now, that is not to say that we will all agree - of course we won't. And whilst some ...
Oh and let's not forget this lot http://www.thisissouthdevon.co.uk/pound-12million-high-quality-new-homes-plan-town/story-12748921-detail/story.html (this new build estate will back onto that being built on Mr Goodridge's erstwhile cornfield so in effect creating one large new build estate of some 375 dwellings).
There is a thread running on the Eyes of Dawlish facebook page concerning farmer Andrew Goodridge and his soon to be built on cornfield. If you haven't seen it, suggest you take a look. Some interesting comments. Did you see his picture and the article in the Gazette? http://www.facebook.com/EODawlish
How long do those premises have to be empty before they can be converted to dwellings?
I've had this response from the Empty Homes Officer at TDC. Thank you for reporting The Old Vicarge, Weech Road, Dawlish, EX7 9BW and 34 Park Road, Dawlish, EX7 9LH. The Old Vicarage This property is well known to us. Unfortunately information regarding this property is not in the public domain at the moment. As such all that we are able to tell you at this stage is that we are actively working ...
On the subject of empty properties - how could we have forgotten the now infamous old Sally Army building at 34 Park Road?! Doesn't it already have planning permission to be converted into flats?
@flo Thanks for that link re The Vicarage - just been having a read. Do you know what I think we should do? We should all report it to TDC again - as many of us as possible - just to make the point about empty properties even if they are Grade II listed. (and especially if they are in such awful condition such as The Old Vicarage. Just what is the point of leaving it as it is? Either it should ...
Please, please do not misunderstand me on this but.......Grade II listed buildings..............Grrr!!!! sometimes I could scream. That said I would no doubt be one of the first to fight for an historic building to be preserved provided it was in good nick. But when they're not?! Same problem in Brighton with the West PIer. It's Grade II listed 'n all. Pile of rust. Some few years ago it caught ...
