General Discussion

Thanks J3, yes I'd heard about this from another parent, not from the school.   Luckily I'm not one of parents who'd already booked a limo! Well we have the Parents meeting tonight to discuss the Ofsted report which will be interesting but much too late for us. Now we have the new exam system to contend with which is starting with current Year 7s.  I do hope DCC without Mr Davis will be up ...

Perhaps you're lucky with your classes Emma but my child leaves this year and the last 3 years have been dire; mixed age classes, flaky teachers with major personal issues and poor general teaching.  I know for a fact that a number of parents in my child's year have paid for private tutors because of the bad maths in particular.  My older child was at Gatehouse under Frank Znederic when it was a ...

Any Gatehouse parents with a view on the latest Ofsted report, especially those in Year 6?  Feeling very let down with 'requiring improvement' grade.  The quality of teaching has definitely slipped in the last few years, especially in Maths.  Looks like those children moving up to the secondary school in September are going to have to work extra hard to catch up with the children coming from other ...

I think people are aware but there is a chance of losing people's interest with multiple threads.  There's even someone on Eye of Dawlish blaming car vandalism on the bedroom tax.

Budget 2013
20 Mar 2013

I did laugh at the People's Republic of South Devon - "Insanity, they say, is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results - a bit like George Osborne's latest budget"

It's just a different way of giving out child tax credit and child benefit.  I understand that the amount lost to couples on child tax credit is about £1200 so it's not finding new money.  I also understand that both parents have to be working to receive this, not sure if that is full or part time.

It's probably not used because people aren't aware of it.  Advertising on facebook doesn't catch everyone.  Perhaps some adverts in the local paper, leaflets at the schools, up at the leisure centre?  I think a lot of people still think the football club as it was is shut down.

I think what wondering is saying is that the same subject is being posted on separate threads and it feels like it's taking over.  I may have a view on the "bedroom tax" and other welfare cuts but constant links with no context is offputting.

There was a protest up in Exeter today against the Bedroom Tax, didn't see you there Brazilnut?

I've just had a letter through from Barratt Homes with the plans attached, although with very tiny print.  I see a number of circles with the word issues next to them. I'd love to know how the local doctor's surgery will cope with all these new residents and how Gatehouse primary school will deal with all the traffic as they can't cope now.  One day there'll be a punch up over parking .. I ...
