Does anyone know what happened at Sydney Court in Old Town Street on Wednesday afternoon? The kids were coming home from school & said that there were police, men in forensic suits & a locksmith with a face mask on. Also an official-looking woman with a clipboard. There was also a peculiar smell around the area. Don't think it was just the bins like it usually is.
There has always been a law against being drunk and disorderly in a public place and I am sure that this has never been repealed. Therefore it seems to me that these people are committing a crime but the police just can't be bothered to enforce the law of the land. What exactly do the police do now?
Ha ha but is it really him? Give us a clue, Dave, or we'll be Forced to keep guessing. As for the bijou residence (tent, to you and I), is it the same one that used to be at Coryton Cove up to a few weeks back? If so, apparently a bag lady was living in it but got fed up with the rumble of trains & shrieking winos & left for a more desirable area.
If it's Tesco, there will not be as many jobs generated as they are intent on introducing as many 'serve yourself' check-outs as they can in their supermarkets in order to maximise profits. I too don't find them very customer-friendly and the service at their in-store cafe in Kingsteignton is appalling. Also I think that a 2-hour limit on car parking penalises the disabled and elderly who may find ...
If you want to know more about the residences on the Warren spit, read 'Living by the Ninth Green' by Basil Macer Wright who I got to know while typing up his work. It's a fascinating look at what life was like in those primitive buldings, all now gone of course. Not for them the luxury of central heating or deliveries by Tesco!
This shop used to be really good when it was just Stewarts. I remember buying some ex-Gap tee shirts there for only £2 each and they used to sell ex Next & M & S lines. When it became Richleys the merchandise changed and became very dull and unexciting. That said, I wish the best of luck to the staff who are now out of a job. One more empty shop in this town. By the way, Jen is selling the sweet ...
If you are elderly, Age Concern will give you the names of local plumbers who have been tried and tested by previous clients. The best thing to do is to ask 3 of them to come and look at the work and to give you an estimate for the job. You can then decide which of them you wish to give the work to and will ensure that you don't get taken for a ride by one of these rip-off merchants.
Councils don't like doing anything for that nuisance, the council tax payer. Witness the collection, or not, of our rubbish. In our street nobody has the luxury of a driveway, most people have to park on the road. That is why we are trying to make it as safe as possible. And by the way, the grit bin still hasn't been filled. Just down the road a bollard has been demolished and the council will now ...
We have a grit bin at the bottom of our hill which is now empty as we have been scattering it for the past few days. Have rung the Highways Agency on 01392 380160 to get it refilled but so far this hasn't been done. Apparently you have to go on a list. This morning a car came down the hill and went smack into a neighbour's wall opposite, fortunately there was only slight damage to the car and ...
I too am wondering why our council have allowed this monstrosity when they are always hammering the private citizen in the name of protecting the 'street scene'.
