Yeah, but if the post office moves out perhaps the new commercial owners will want even more rent then they are asking for now. If no-one can afford to pay what they are asking for why are they asking it? What is their game? And anyone know the name of these new commercial owners?

I thought Teignbridge District Council were going to do something about that. Also, I'll swear I saw something in local papers saying that Mayor of Dawlish (Rosalind Prowse) was trying to get something done.

Olive, you might want to get in contact with Dawlish Community Trust, c/o The Manor House. I understand they are undertaking research into how to revitalise the town centre. See if they can help.

I have to say that despite my banging on about homelessness I do agree that the building does lend itself to some form of restuarant. (And yes I know we've got loads along the Strand and Brunswick but they really are very tired looking and a bit dowdy). Squatters?perhaps. At least that might galvanise the owners to do something about their empty propeties. Why doesn't Teignbridge District Council do something about this like trying to get the empty properties occupied! Olive, suggest you tell Teignbridge District Council about this church land - and also make a big fuss about the waste in as many ways as you can. Write to papers? Write to local Cllrs?

Just thought I'd drop this in........not that I'm mentioning any names you understand but a certain supermarket chain is infamous for 'land-banking' ie buying up land in the hope that in the future it will get planning permission to build. If it doesn't get p/p the land stays undeveloped - which of course means that desperately needed houses cannot be built, or doctors' surgeries etc etc. Such a ...
