Speed Restrictions

Yes I appreciate the H&S aspect and suspect it is also for structures to bed in as well.  Wouldn't matter if timetimbles had slack for this. The trouble is that FGW are never realistic about such things in their optimistic timetables.  So last Easter my already delayed HST train at Exeter then lost another crucial 4mins Exeter to NA.  This additional delay was the tipping point in it ever ...

Here's another idea.  Whether part of the artwork or separately, use Dawlish Station as a 'platform' (pardon the unintended pun) to create a sort of Bayeaux Tapestry that tells the story.  Not so daft, as many London Underground stations do just this to celebrate their history.

p.s. Speak nicely and who knows you may even find a way to get some of the carbuncles mentioned in threads sorted sooner rather than later

Hence my caveat that the Orange Army wasn't a 'charitable organisation', (unlike locals supporting them in lots of little ways).  Nevertheless, it is the civil engineering brains not just the brute force that I am suggesting could be included in some way in the art work, i.e. Brunel is not the only clever engineer to have participated in the ongoing history of the wall.  And goodness knows how ...

Anyone know from local anecdotal chats or otherwise how long the crippling speed restrictions along the wall that foul up the punctuality of every single train by several minutes are likely to last?  FGW do not have any slack in current timings to allow for this and so trains currently habitually arrive at both NA and Exeter a minimum of 3mins late (extra!)

A seawall railway was not Brunel's solution of choice, (albeit having a number of unintended happy upsides to it) but rather a South Devon Railway cash strapped one.  Also the art budget would possibly result in getting something that could look second rate c.f. at Paddington (see above picture).  Hence, not sure about the statue idea. Sorry, still think some form of my catenary idea is the ...

We saw a greyhound last weekend and it was adorable, so best wishes for her recovery.  Just wondered if anyone knows whether greyhounds are susceptible to this type of injury given their combination of tremendous speed and slender proportions?

Garden waste costs

Once upon a time my council provided free skips twice a year.  They were so popular people were filling them up even before the driver released the chains!!  We also had small brown 'caddies' into which food waste in decompostable bags was put.   Both cut out now, the latter being a trial that was uneconomical, albeit environmentally friendly and simple to use. Tins, glass, paper and cardboard ...

Thanks for the feedback DJ.  Holiday periods are inevitably a good testing time for seeing who has their act together, or perhaps, to be charitable, is a 'victim of their own success'!

Dawlish Beach Open

Worth pursing while there are still quite a significant amount amount of wall repairs in progress right along to Teignmouth. Anyone know what the final visual plan is for the wall in its totality of length.  It is now, by force of necessity, a patchwork of concrete and the original stone?
