the united tastes of america .....
All states, all regions of the USA have thier own specialities and dishes. But nothing unites them all like a burger
Of course, like many dishes we think of as American, its origins lay elsewhere. In this case, it is more than likely it was introduced my immigramnts from Europe, probably German migrants. In Germany they are known as fricadella. This would also explain why hamburgers do not contain ham, but so named after the city of Hamburg
These mini burgers are my take on sliders, which are small burgers, usually cooked on the griddle with onions, as the onion is almost cooked the small burger buns are placed on top so they absorb the steam from the onions and transform them into light, pillowy texture. If you know the movie Harold & Kumar go to White Castle will be familiar with them. For it was the founder of the White Castle chain who created them in 1916 in Wichita, Kansas; Walter Anderson
Next month, I have American friends returning to Dawlish after their nuptials in Virginia. So I thought I had better brush up on some American cusine in the hope of doing them proud when they return and get a little homesick
