Yes I noticed it around the time of the drugs bust. In fact I emailed the editor to ask why. She replied that it would be covered by their court correspondent the following week. It never was. I think that business interests may have an influence here.

It matters a lot. If Dawlish is becoming a cesspit/cemetary its because its controlled by business interests which cater for the lowest common denominator. I'm just curious about how far people are aware, but I don't care anymore because I am moving to Exeter. In common with other more upmarket people I know. Something has certainly been demolished and apartments are being built. I can't remember what was there previously! I expect it WAS the Great Cliff Hotel. Don't expect anyone in Dawlish to kick up about it though - the most apathetic place I have ever lived in. Though if it was listed Private Eye might be interested.

Its known as 'The Dawlish Effect'. It happens a lot. Many theories have been put forward - the Dawlish Fog, a portal to another universe, midnight kidnappers. The longer you stay in Dawlish the greater your chance of never being seen again. Get out while you have the chance!

Its drugs related. There is a massive drugs problem in Dawlish. But its kept quiet so as not to worry potential tourists. We had loads of stuff nicked from cars, including badges. But its not normal youngsters doing it. You;ve got too many drifters in and around the place.

Because houses are bought to make money, not to live in.

But then you would have even fewer postings! I have now moved to Exeter and am glad to have done so - the lack of use of this facility reflects the dullness and lack of activity in Dawlish. I don't think censoring the critical ones, such as mine, is the answer at all.

Nothing, unless you like chav pubs and plebby shops. Come to Exeter for a glimpse of civilisation!

It would be good, but you may as well shout into a black hole. The site has always been hopeless for dialogue and we have all just given up bothering. Dawlish has that effect. I'm moving to Exter and can't wait.

Its like the ONLY thing that happens in Dawlish all the year round. Now they are asking for volunteers to police it. Why don't local businesses pay out of the increased profits they will make?

Very nice. Yes it certainly feels at times (maybe all the time?) that no one else is alive in Dawlish. I don't understand, with a population of 11000, how a place can be so lacking in energy. And it seems to be getting WORSE!!

You may well be right about those places in Somerset. I only went to Wiveliscombe which seemed quite lively in comparison to Dawlish.

I dunno, St James looked OK to me but then again so did Dawlish at first glance! Theres another factor though for us in that we need a bigger house. I notice you mention Totnes - almost London prices by the look of it, and VERY alternative. I know Exeter has a huge drugs problem but as you say, the student vibe is there which I like very much.

I'd much rather see a nice B&B with hanging baskets than a dilapidated flat with rubbish piled up outside. Don't forget that people are a little behind the times down here and take a while to catch on. I expect the first incident of happy slapping to occur in 2010. (Note the new Indian Takeaway - Dawlish moves forward into the 1970s!)

I agree with you Alex. Thats why I don't bother posting on here anymore. Its a shame - but no one in Dawlish seems to write to the papers either, despite having plenty of time to do so. Very strange - is it something in those sea mists I wonder?

Many thanks for those links. I did realise that the Brotherhood was very powerful but there seems to be little that can be done about it. As long as people are aware and continue to ask awkward questions - thats the main thing. Also, voting Clatworthy off the council would help.

Well I do and as time goes on the more corrupt this place appears to be. Don't like the dog sh*t either, all part of the general sense of not caring and people doing as they lack.
