Why do the residents of dawlish make such an issue of the carnival. personally dressing up like a fool and cram packing the pubs seems utterly small minded. I can see why the carnival may be a positive thing for children but my concerns are with why fully grown adults go to the pub to numb thereselves with alcohol rather than doing something much more constructive!

How can you make such comments!Dawlish Carnival Week is the largest and longest event of its kind in South Devon. The 8 day event will be packed with displays, competitions and exhibitions. Enjoy activities such as Nightly Bingo, Clay Modelling and numerous entertainers. With something for everyone, this is guaranteed to be a great family day out. As for the drinking comment the is a time of celebration! Mines a pint!

Its like the ONLY thing that ever happens in Dawlish!! The song and dance they make over it. Just an excuse to dress up and get p**sed.

Yes it's pointless, Gets worse every year that goes by. Why don't we try and think of something else to do on that day instead, which is more fun and entertaining.

Make it the last year!!!!!1

Your the small minded one! how can you make such a comment about the starving children!! If we all dwelled on the hurt going on around the world we would all spend our days depressed!! I'm all for helping the unfortunate but also all for enjoying the life we've been given. Sounds like you need a pint or a few prozac!!! LOL!

Alfie binyon i believe you are so small minded. How can u blind yourself from the REAL events around the globe so you can "down a pint" Dawlish Carnival is a load of sh*t and its only purpose is to fill Dawlish Dumplins small lives for a week, my thoughts are with the person who brought up this topic, WHAT IS THE POINT???

Dwelling on the event of straving chidren is not something i want, what i want is for all the money and people churned into a pointless carnival to be focused on helping important issues around the world. Dawlish carnival has no purpose and acheieves little integrity in its unconsructive being.

Enjoy your little carnival, its the only harmless fun that you secondary modern pupils will ever get since none of you had the cojones to leave Dawlish with your two CSEs.

Let me assure you, the rest of the world will carry on without the tuppences you toss in the toilet buckets sported by some ageing tranny for whom carnival is the only opportunity to wear ladies underwear in public.

It sounds as though rebellion is stirring in Dawlish! Good stuff, great posts. Though I think you must leave the place (if you are there) as soon as you can if you value your sanity.

As much as this is to help all the starving kids from all over the world. I ASK WHY!!!!! sorry i'm looking after number ONE first ME!! it's tuff enough in this country getting ripped off with taxes etc. I earn my money it goies on me.

The carnival, like i said in previous post, is getting worse every year. NO fun to be seen anymore and it lasts all of ohhhh 45 minutes now - carnivals that took place a feew years abck used to last 2 hours or more, is that telling you something.

No, I think you're getting confused with the Rio carnival or Sydney's mardi gras parade.

Dawlish carnival has always been short and profoundly unfunny. Good for nothing other than for pervs to look at young 'royalty' in chiffon and satin covering budding, braless breasts.

Having said that, the air show is very good.

The kids sports day though is also rubbish. It is just an excuse for an old guy to get his hands on a megaphone and shout nonsense all day.

You PERV looking that far into the Carnival queeens clothing. I remember the carnival being 2 hours long on many times. So NO im not thinking of the MARDI GRAS etc. Every year it just gets WORSE and WORSE. People just cant be bothered toput the effort in anymore. Their is to much about health and safety too. Bin IT!!!!! start a new one.

Ohh well

Ok guy’s, first of the Person the Microphone, is a Dawlish Actor and a highly respected guy in the area he dose a fantastic job and always makes the crowd laugh. Secondly all the carnivals these days are not what they used to be procession wise, Dawlish still has one of the if not the biggest procession in Devon and the surrounding areas. Shows, activities and things to do are on all day from around 10.00 morning till late night. This year we see the Fire Brigade competition Back, Adult Tug O War on the beach an open air cinema, big highlights like the Senior Its A Knockout, Raft Race, procession/air show.

Yes there are dieing people in the world, and we are all fully aware of that, but Dawlish Carnival is the best thing that happens to Dawlish, and they do support local charities, recently helping raise money towards the Bobby Wright Fund ( A young boy with a very rare condition of childhood cancer who needs treatment in Americas, and they spend many hours a week of there spare time making sure its as big as it is, with new regulations and health and safety law's it can not be as it used to be. But lets think, if you think there’s not enough for the adults then say your suggestions here, I'm sure someone will be reading and take them forward.

Now everyone has there right of say, but lets chill out a bit, and lets not be rude, and start accusing people of things, as that is not a civilised manner. Those who take part in events do it because they enjoy it, the crowd turns out in a mass volume to support carnival, and its one of the most travelled events that people come to see from all over the world. We are meant to be giving a good impression on Dawlish here, so come on people.

Thank god for a sensible piece of writting, I suggest all of you that hates Dawlish carnival that much, stay at home or better still move somewhere else, if Dawlish is not good enough. Let the people who enjoy the carnival week enjoy it without rude insults from people who obviously have no community spirit.

Well, thats true, I did.

The guy with the megaphone is a jackass, but yes he is funny.
He is a megalomaniac.

I recall him getting very shirty with a balloon salesman pre-red arrows

"Ladies and Gentlemen, this is an unauthorized balloon salesman. He is a solo operator unconnected to the carnival. The red arrows will not come if you buy his ballons in case one gets stuck in their turbines"

The balloons make sheepish retreat under the viaduct before the man gets lynched by ten thousand fat Romford mums.

For someone who claims not to like Dawlish, Mark spends a lot of time on this Forum. Often replying to his own posts.

First of it is true about the balloon sellers, they go around selling balloons saying it goes towards the carnival and the air show which in fact it doesn’t and its also illegal for them to be selling them on that day or in fact any day.

Secondly the carnival brings in visitors of around 50,000 each year to the carnival making it a great week for shops, holiday sites and other businesses. With roughly 70,000 in attendance for carnival day alone.

Thirdly most of the committee either have full time jobs or are retired, and they still commit there time, to Dawlish 3 hours a week, putting on the carnival week, Christmas grotto, crowning day, Easter bonnet parade, pub challenge and helping at allot of other countless events.

Now the majority of people posting on here are most likely to be kids of Dawlish, who believe that Dawlish is completely rubbish and there is nothing to do, well your wrong, not only is there the beach, numerous parks there is allot more, so move away from your computer and go out in the air.

So bring on Dawlish carnival week 2006 – programmes are on sale in shops all over Dawlish, come and support the week with moneys going to local charities, and to go back to the statement about “Dieing children” for those who would like an alternative on Thursday there will be a church tent on the lawn where you can go and talk and pray if you do not wish to be apart of the hectic bout fantastic day.

But seriously guys, lets not be rude about other people, and if you don’t like something fine, but you do not have to spoil it for other people.

Why should our money go to charity. charity starts at home. especailly the prices the council are charging us.

Ohhh im so looking forward to the carnival NOT!!

The Bobby Wright Fund has had two £1 donations in the brunswick arms! what does that tell you about the small mindedness of dawlish residents! And why sould the carnival be inflicted on dawlish residents who do not support the local stupidity.

I think it is so so very rude how carnival supporters such as the carnival commity and other organizers inflict the carnival upon people who do not support it. Why shouldn't Dawlish residents be able to live in their chosen town without roads being blocked off, litter and rubbish filling the streets, drucken late night behaviour and local facilities such as the lawn being taken over by fairground gypsies. Comments such as "If you don't like it move away" are poor comments. Dawlish Carnival has the same principle format as smoking because why should the actions of some people effect the people who do not support it??? surely this is a preach of human rights?

May I remind you that the small simple moaning minded gits of Dawlish that Dawlish Carnival over the years has raised money for charities, to numerous to mention, cancer and heart disease being besides many many many more. The Committee put in thounsands upon thounsands of hours, which may I remind you are not paid, there wives, girlfreinds etc have to put up with an awful lot over the years so if anyone has the right to moan it should be them. Perhaps you also need reminding that its all about pulling in the local communities and making young and old alike, work together as one for the benifit of others. Yes people have the right to voice their own opinion but you are very very small minority, but the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. So get a life you sad sad people and live a little, try and enjoy life as life is very short. And lets try to get rid of this miserable git name you seem to be getting from many many people.

Here we go................. their are more people in Dawlish that are NO sad and do object to lots of things. I'm only saying that the carnival is CRAP. it does not get any better. Why do you think people go out?? to watche the carnival?? NO they go out to go down the pub afterwards and get p**sed up. it's just an excuse to do so. The carnival needs to be done properly. I agree as one member said. Why should we suffer with road closures. i live in dawlish and get p**sed off that i can't even get to my own house after work because of it. sorry this aint good enough. NO ONE is stopping me from getting to my house. i pay road tax and the council so stick it.

I wont be watching the carnival this year. its too much crap to take on board. GOOD luck in collecting your 1p and 2p coins.

GROW UP, what is wrong with u guys, i think the commitee to a great job,its a fantastic week and we have suppoted it for years, its free its lots of fun and it great that familys can join this good week, hope carnival goes well this year i wont be there as im away but my family sure will. x x x

Oh my god, i cannot believe that "living life to it's full" in some peoples minds means watching trucks with flashing lights drive through the streets of dawlish which some people call a carnival! I think it is disgusting how Dawlish residents pay council TAX so that the roads can be closed off to make way for fully grown adults to sit on their arse wathcing a carnival. Im all for carnivals as they make children happy but i just think it is deeply sad that Dawlish carnival is the highlight of some peoples year. THERES A WORLD OUT THERE, EXPLORE IT!

In just 9 hours the town was once again clean (well as clean as it usually is) The council and committee need a big thanks for clearing it up when i expect most of them had indugled also in the night's partying. Hats off to them all. As for the rest of the week - abs fantastic!

yeah all of 4 miles like you

consructive my arse!
ive been nosing around this 'discussion' board for a while now, and this is by far one of the most pathetic subjects posted.
i live in dawlish myself, and yeah maybe you do too, but youve obviously NEVER heard of a bit of fun have you ?? its not just for children, ANYONE can enjoy the carnival.
the people organising it put alot of effort into it dont they ? nd yeah 'dressing up like fools', 'numbing themselves with alcohol' might be true in some cases, but im sure nobodies going to CARE and everybodies just going to go out and have a whale of a time like we do every year. freakin killjoy.
so do me and my carnival-a-going friends a favour.
and damn off.
