I visited last weekend on my way in and out of Penzance, to travel the Great Western from Penzance to Paddington. As my Gran used to live in Exeter, i've lost count of the times I've been to Dawlish. I love the place. If I ever won the lottery, I would move there like a shot, or to Exeter, so I could at least visit. The ice-cream stand on the beach near the station was there in the seventies when ...
Well said! My gran lived in Exeter and used to love the place. Last year I went back and the charm had gone! It had Virgin, HMV, Subways, M&S etc, and now looks the same as everywhere else. Please don't let this happen to Dawlish, too! If updating it means losing it's charm, then please leave it in the 1950's.
Hi! I heard that rumor, too and I didn't like it. I'm afraid they will rip up the coastal line altogether. This should not happen. It's part of the history of Dawlish, the Great Western, and above all my vivid childhood memories. An alternative route for winter - fine, but they should let us have the beautiful route for the summer!
