I'm wondering why, if the final decision is based on the Devon County Council officer's recommendation, they bothered with a public consultation? A lot of time, money and arguments could have been saved! It'll be interesting to see what the Cabinet's decision will be next Wednesday.

FANTASTIC! This is excellent news, especially the 30 minutes free parking on the Brunswick (which will be monitored by traffic wardens just as they do now). It'll brighten up The Strand and make shopping a pleasant experience, which will encourage more people to use the shops. And the council won't loose out from parking charges cos how many of us pay now if we're just popping into the odd shop? ...

This is really bad news! I'm very sorry to see them go. :-(

Town Shops Closing !!

Nelson, last time I went into Sainsbury to buy Gordon's Gin, I found it was on offer in the Co-op for £1 less in the Co-op the next day. I don't think there's much difference in the own brand prices either.

Thanks Lynne, I just completed it. I hope many others do to! It does annoy me that whenever I visit Teignmouth I feel like a second class citizen, because the children't facilities and flower beds on the Teignmouth sea front have had so much more investment than we've had in Dawlish!

Town Shops Closing !!

Wondering - "english", "sentense", "Caps" - tut tut! Personally I hate self checkouts. They're just another way in which big companies can reduce staff and increase profits. I've been shopping at the Dawlish Co-op for 6 years and always had good service and helpful staff. Instead of creating negative rumours about shops in town, why not be positive instead? We only have one empty shop on the Strand and their aren't many towns that can claim that! Also, the small shop at the bottom of Queen Street is having work done and looks like it's going to open again.

Hi Angela, and welcome! You could try the local Chamber of Trade, they have a Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Dawlish-Traders/224752714263041

New to town

Hi Cheftallyrand. Welcome to Dawlish! Please try the Deli at the bottom of Brook Street (go past the library and round the corner). They make delicious quiches and pies, do the best cooked meat in town (beautiful rare roast beef) and Frank's Scotch eggs are unbeatable!

It certainly wasn't Boots! They have the biggest shop frontage on the Strand and a non-existant Xmas display. Their window looked dreadful over Xmas.
