@leatash - i beg to differ, the weight in the tree is in the trunk not in the small branches that have slowly grown back after many years since it was last butchered. In 18 months you will have a tuft of branches sticking out of the trunk. The only reason it is butchered in this way is because it is cheaper to do so, not for any other reason, in my opinion.
Walking along The Brook yesterday evening, by the old monkey house, I saw that one of the lovely willows that had been butchered many years ago has now been revisited by talented tree surgeons! Poor quality pic from my phone, still shows the pruning extent.
The british goverment is like the arabs during the 2nd world war, a bit like a tree in a storm.
I would suspect that there will be an angle to this, most probably the old camel h*****s will want something from the British for his release.
