Yes, Huw I agree with you. It had also gone through my mind that perhaps the poster message should be the other way around. ie no poster/pumpkin or whatever being displayed = please do not knock on door. Poster saying 'Trick or Treat Welcome Here' (or similar wording)/pumpkin being displayed = please knock on door I wish to participate. Wonder why that's not happened?

When does something become 'tradition'? I can't remember trick or treating taking place when I was young. Seems to have started off in the last, what?, 35/40 years? Import from America? just like high school proms?
