Green might be consistent but matching the viaduct to stench pipes feels like the tail wagging the dog! Maybe the viaduct could have the same base colour as the station and blend with the sea but be brightened up with the colours of whatever design was settled on - black swans etc. There'll never be a consensus on what it should be but at least most of us agree it needs improving. By the ...

Clive, it's the same in Dawlish,  only certain parts of the beach allow dogs in the summer. I'm a responsible dog owner and am alert to others leaving mess in case anyone think it's me.   I've yet to come across anyone not clearing up, though of course it's more likely to happen when no one's looking. Same with the yellow polystyrene takeaway cartons and lager cans that surface overnight.

Yes, being by the sea was the main attraction, but then there's also the phenomenal countryside - whichever way I drive in, I see stunning vistas - Powderham, Mamhead, Luscombe, Ashcombe, Teign Estuary. Clive, are you from the Ministry of Good ideas?  What a shame you don't live in Dawlish, your input is very constructive.  We have a Town Centre Manager, it's sounds like just the sort of thing she might organise.   Thanks very much.

Keep it going Lynne et al.    It's one of the more constructive threads on here.

Not strange at all.  It's got nothing to do with cost, just aesthetic values.  For a town that relies on tourism, I don't think your 'good old British Rail bulk standard railings' are the best choice for the seafront.   Happily the canopy is a vast improvement.   I'd also like to see something done about the stench pipes by the viaduct.  If you think that's finding fault, I'll wear it as a badge ...

The railings are ugly, am surprised they didn't top them off with a roll of barbed wire.

Is this a surprise to everyone or am I just reading the wrong media?  Either way it 's very good news.

Leatash, I said 'one of' not 'the'...semantics...no matter. Lynne - thank you.  Maybe the Dawlish Gazette would fly the flag for the town.  I saw your post of Mark Carne's statement regarding the views of stakeholders, so once the repair work is done I guess it'll come down to whether Dawlish 'stakeholders' have the wherewithal to hold their own.
