Thank you for your contributions, Chef, which were really useful and interesting. If you're off to sunnier climes, spare a thought for us left behind in drab, damp England.
I always understood that Bitz & Bobz was a popular & well-used shop, providing a good variety of products at reasonable prices, so I was surprised when it shut. I suspect that the overheads are just too great in the current economic market so perhaps the council/landlords need to think again about the rents & business rates. Surely it is better to have premises occupied & bringing in some money ...
Better still, don't do anything that they can grass you up on.
Have to share this as we're discussing the seagulls. Yesterday afternoon I was down by the Viaduct & a small group of bikers had obviously been to Bailey's & got their chips which they then proceeded to leave on the sea wall while they walked out on the jetty to look at the sea. By the time they got back only the chip papers remained & they were quite miffed. Of course, only visitors would do ...
I was told, but I don't know how reliable this is, that the site would become a multi-storey car park. There won't be any necessity for it if they get rid of more shops as no-one will want to go there.
Like Don, I was under the impression that they'd been inspected & found to be healthy so what's changed in just over a year? Hope the council keep in mind that the trees soak up a lot of moisture & act as a wind break on the Lawn. Like everyone else, I find it a bit too convenient.
Someone in that movie (The Birds) had their eyes pecked out, but I think it was by crows. The most frightening bit is when they are gathering on the childrens' climbing frame by the school house ready for when the children finish school. Available to watch on You Tube.
A happy, healthy and peaceful New Year to everyone. Remember, the days are now getting longer.
Every little helps.
Morrisons here I come (on 14th January).
