The Strand
18 Feb 2011

You want to improve the Strand, its simple, as Ive previously said, widen the pavement, reduce parking to the Lawn side only, as then you wont get half wits parking in the middle of the road blocking traffic. Its an easy compromise, a wider pedestrian area and you still get parking/throughfare traffic. Face it, being able to drive AND park near enough right outside the shops is a flaming good way ...

Pedestrianise the Strand...great idea. Out going traffic to go via a reveresed direction High street......great. As soon as the bin lorries decide to do their usual slowthly trip down the road at 1.00 pm, stopping all the traffic. and creating gridlock.....great! Simply do away with all parking on the pedestrian side of the strand and widen the pavement to suit. That would be suffice, then police ...

Sainsburys
11 Jan 2011

I wouldnt agree totaly with whats been discussed as Sainsburys have been trying to get a store of some form or another in Dawlish since the very early 1980's, long before new housing was on the agenda of the government. They tried to buy out the majority of the Industrial estate at the time, but as owners where reluctant to sell their plot incase neighbouring owners decided not to sell up and ...

Bill Millin

RIP Mr Millin. " They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them." Now at rest with his former colleagues and friends.

I wonder if the Rowlands Carnival Comittee will be taking over fully next year? No Marquee incase the weather turns bad either, its not a good sign.

Police Cars
15 Aug 2010

Anyone from Dawlish knows that there are regular drugs busts there at a certain house. Im suprised that the house owners dont give the Police a set of door keys as they are there so often.

If you pedestrianise The Strand, how do you suggest vehicles get out of Dawlish? You either force people to drive up over Stockton hill, up over Oke hill or along Plantation Terrace, already narrow and overused routes. If parking was made along the stone wall side of the strand only the pavement could be widened slightly, and shop deliveries/refuse collection was enforced to after say 5pm through ...

Harrison's Revamp

Blimey! Where did I say I wanted it to shut it down? All I remarked was that as its in a conservation area, it would be nice if it was made to look more like the original victorian type building RATHER than a tacky seaside amusements. Jesus, if some people actualy bothered to read what was wrote, rather than just reading what they want to see, there would be less flaming on this site.

"Speaking on behalf of developers Barratt Homes, Gareth Kendall said: "We are committed to providing a scheme which we feel fits the local area and the community and will provide much-needed housing."" Should that not read "We are committed to providing a scheme which makes as much money as possible for our company"? These big companies all give the same impression that they do these things for ...

Harrison's Revamp

I would have thought that being in a conservation area, it should have ment the frontage being returned to resemble some form of elegant Victorian building, not degrading it into an even bigger looking tacky hovel for the shorts, sandles and tattoo brigade or the 'on benefits' crowd to waste both their time and money in. It could be re-vamped to provide Dawlish with a far better looking first ...
