General Discussion

Just thought I'd raise this thread to remind people that the Barratt's exhibition is tomorrow, Friday 22nd, at the Manor House, between 2.00pm and 7.00pm.

Cowley Bridge I believe is in the Exeter constituency. We didn't have flooding on the line here but there were landslips onto the line between Dawlish and Teignmouth. What are the major engineering works taking place at Reading and how will they improve the service to/from down here? Do you know?

It's not that I am so incessant about supporting the bone idle rather more that I challenge your, as I see them, sweeping statements concerning those who need welfare support one way or the other. "Budget 2013: Chancellor halves growth forecasts, pushes back debt reduction targets, and avoids having to announce an increased deficit only by rushing through last-minute cuts" From 'The Independent'

From Hansard 20th March 2013 Q15. [148847] Anne Marie Morris (Newton Abbot) (Con): Traveller numbers on the coastal railway line running through my constituency are growing fast. Well, if a proliferation of charity shops signifies a dying town then there must be oodles of dying towns in GB right now. Dawlish is not alone with having charity shops. Let's take a look at Topsham. Chelsea by the Sea I understand is an alternative name for it. I went there about six weeks ago. Had an interesting time looking around which included having a mooch around its four charity ...

Paul, As you keep going on about people who choose not to work and how much they cost the taxpayer in benefits please can you let us know: 1 How many people you understand fall in the 'too lazy to work' category. 2. What criteria was used to define them as such. 3. How much, as a % of the annual total welfare bill, is spent on their benefits 4. The source(s) of your answers to those ...

well......howsabout some of the benefit bill being reduced by...... People earning a living wage (which is not the same as the minimum wage, it is more than the minimum wage.) This could have the effect of reducing the housing benefit bill because people might then be able to pay their rent in full, or, if still having to claim HB not as much HB as they are having to claim now.  Even ...

Just for clarity Paul, when you say" the huge welfare bill" are you including in that things like state pensions and other age related benefits?

Ah! So it's a Londoncentric policy.
