Had e-mail back from Anne-Marie Morris who said that she had told TDC about this competition before it was officially announced so they've had plenty of warning. Interesting though that there's been no local publicity about it which suggests perhaps that TDC haven't done very much. With thinking cap on, what does Dawlish need? Given the tight deadline someone needs to pick up and lead this now. According to the article: "12 successful localities will create Town Teams, made up of the key players in their local community - such as the council, local landlords, shopkeepers and the local MP". So all these need to buy in to the idea and be part of the pitch. The MP seems to be the best place to start - without her support ...

Looking at Thomasthe Rhymer's post I don't think he was saying that it is "the duty of the state to fund benefit lifestylers ". However, a civilised society should be responsible for ensuring that those requiring support in times of need do receive that support - whether that's because of illness, unemployment, abandonment by fathers etc. When it comes to use of taxpayers money I would prefer ...

It would be interesting if everyone in the country withdrew their money at the same time from bank accounts in protest. Perhaps politicians would then take notice.

@Don. Yes it was that famous thread "Drop in meetings for consultation on draft Dawlish Plan". What a thread that was. I remember it well. The myth of the housing projections was exploded, the Dawlish Plan was in tatters, peopel threatened to withdraw from this forum because it was getting boring.
