Love Wetherpoons, great concept, frequent when I am in "the city" BUT ....... WE DON'T NEED THEM in Dawlish !! Yes they employ, but so do the local eateries and they keep the money local. Wetherspoons profits go straight to head office. Local pubs are terrific places, great atmosphere, great service (for the most part) and reflect the small town feeling that Dawlish NEEDS to maintain
@Philip - thanks for that info. i've only just returned to the uk and never knew about that. as to the precautions took, far better to be safe than sorry. i'm just sorry some of those around me yesterday, didn't think the same way.
VERY surprised it wasn't even worth a mention on the nightly news. And STILL nothing online either .... All day and night, that's wondrous strange !!

A few thoughts here, so pleade excuse the individual postings, but posting via iPad doesn't allow for paragraph formatting. Firstly WELL DONE to all those involved, Police and the Naval Bomb Disposal Squad. From my first hand experience (evacuated quickly & efficiently from nearby building) they all did an awesome job in a bad situation. Big thumbs up to the co-ordinations team - setting up road ...
I was evacuated out of our building, and made to wait it out at the railway carpark. Whatever it turns out to be, hoax or not, the Police, I thought did a wonderfully calm job. Although I am surprised at the lack of loud speakers to help evacuate and control. But alls well, that ends well :-)
Great result, from awesome crews & teams !! My praises to all those involved and best wishes to the lady rescued.
Hopefully just a training exercise. One day someone's life (maybe mine) will rely on that training, so being kept awake for an hour or so, is a small price to pay.
For a couple of hours. It was on a holding pattern, mainly hovering out to sea off Teignmouth and then flying over Dawlish waterfront. Hope all was well, and everyone OK
Why is a helicopter keeping me awake?
