User 4549, I fail to see your problem, if someone parks, without permission, on your or my property that is illegal parking and they deserve everything they get. There should be no need for signs etc. everybody knows when they leave the public highway and enter private property, or at least they should if they used their eyes.
This problem has arisen because of buying products from “in shop” bakeries. Originally food purchased as “hot” for take away was taxable and normal bakery products were not.. Recently many bakeries have arranged for food to be strait from the oven, therefore hot but not labelled as a hot food take away (Grieg´s for example) and avoiding VAT. The chancellor has now closed this loophole. Any shop ...
VAT does not work that way. It will only affect the price in very small hairdressers who´s turnover does not reach the VAT registration level.(71K) At todays prices all high street salons would be above that level. In which case VAT on the chair would be reclaimed against VAT charged to you, the customer. The government would receive VAT to the value of 20% of the haircut only. I would suggest ...
If, and it is a big if, CB was to be stopped it could not be done retrospectively. It could be announced tomorrow that it will cease for all new babbies in 9 months time. As for one parent dying or loosing their job....we would still have a benefit system so what is the problem. Not necessarily my view, but it adds to the discussion
PS. do not know why the size of print changed
Regardless of how you measure it the old age pension is already means tested. If they have savings or an income, they get what is called the basic pension. This amount is UNDER that which the Social Services say is required to live on. Those without savings etc. can add housing benefit and many other benefits until their income is above or level that required to live. ( This figure is unknown to ...
So in your words, it is a tax on childless couples
Since couples ( married or otherwise) are no longer taxed as one unit as they used to be, there is no option but to use single persons tax levels. There has to be a cut off point somewhere. It is not possible to calculate a couples income with today´s tax system.
Once again we seem to have moved away from the first post. The stopping of CB for those on higher tax. If I were lucky enough to earn enough to pay the higher rate I would not be poor, and therefore not need CB. If my wife, or partner, voluntarily choose to not work why should we complain, if other wives do work and pay tax receive CB. As for those on low income there are other benefits that they ...
If you take any argument to its extreme, you will get extremes. That was never my intention. In your opening posts highlighted a couple in a six bedroomed house, their other problems aside, large multi bedroomed houses are in short supply in every area, so they should be rehoused to a smaller home. You stated that they were on benefits, so no travelling to work problems. As to rent differentials, ...
