I'd say that the reason the lycra cyclists don't use the cycle paths is because the cycle paths were built for the more leisurely type of cyclists eg kids and families. And as a lot of the cycle paths are also pathways the last thing pedestrians want are fast pedalling athletes sharing their space.

You left out Belgium. So would something along the lines of the old EEC be more agreeable to you? And the Europeans can only travel from one end of Europe to the other (as you put it in an earlier post on this thread) without a passport because of the Schengen agreement. @burneside - your right. It could equally say 'Fabrique en France' - which in a way would be very appropriate given the amount of French already on the front of our passports.
So do I take it then that you would have been equally okay with EU nationals not needing to have a passport in order to enter the UK?
