Judith Chalmers, I am actually thinking of all UK pensioners, particularly our WW2 veterans.
Judith Chalmers, the following was copied and pasted from the site of Age/UK and Age Concern. Cold kills 200 British pensioners a day during winter. Britain has 12 million elderly people. “”Nine elderly people died every hour from cold-related illnesses last winter against a background of soaring energy bills. Official figures show the number of deaths linked to cold over the four-month ...
Judith Chalmers, since Tory privatisation under Thatcher, UK energy prices rtemain the highest in Western Europe, with our pensioners and the low waged and/or unemployed having to use foodbanks and /or having to choose between eating or heating their homes to live. Britain's State pensionedrs do receive a lower State pension than their EU neighbours.
In no order of merit. Free market deregulation has give us the highest Utility bills compared to Europe. The lowest wages compared to Western Europe. The lowest State pensions And an unfair tax system compared to western Europe. Dawlish is a largely Tory/lLib-Dem region, so on behalf of the rest of Britain, thanks to all Tory's and Lib-Dems in this region for helping to turm Britain ...
Lynn, you dont have to point out the blooming obvious, even though you felt an overwhelming need to. All, and what I know is that we decent a decent State pension in this country for men and woman aged 60. But the right wing politicians we have had for over 30 years in this country have easily managed not only to divide us, but to also put each other at each others throats. Meanwhile ...
The trouble is that the right wing dont believe in the State pension, and neither does Lib-Dem Steve Webb. It is utter bullony all this garbage about an ever againing population, it is hog wash. The reality is that the right wing dont want to pay a better State pension, they would prefer spending more money on a subserviant means test system under the guize of targing the poorest ...
Chris, we have become a throwaway society, we just dont care what we drop, or where we drop it. Come to that, we dont care what we do either.
Lynne, are the new pensions proposals set in stone ?, ie couldnt another Government change them ?
Lynne, our elderly people were ripped off by Thatcher in the 80's over 30 years ago in 1980, when she reduced the basic State pension by stopping the State pension increasing with British prosperity. What everybody is suffering from now is the same right wing dogma. I believe the people of Britain have a duty toward our WW2 veterans, because without their efforts and sacrifies in the past ...
Lynne, your caught up in statitics, stick to the basics. We all need to retire at 60, we all need to have our NI contributions fund us all a decent State pension in retirement. The State must pay out, and whatever else we might have gained personally, is no businbess of government, so the means test needs to be abolished.
