I have guests staying for a few days (regular visitors from the spires of Oxford). After cooking them a feast consisting of Red Mullet with sauteed potatoes and Anchovy dressing, followed by Saddle of Lamb with apricot and cumin stuffing, and finished off with a Rhubarb creme brulee, despite the fact we had between us quaffed a couple of bottles of my finest sauvignon blanc, it was suggested a cheese board would be an adequate end to the meal. However, to my horror, on opening my cabinet door, I was completely out of Port. So, here lies the answer to the opening title. What did the old fool Bob do? Of course he trotted off to the shops to purchase as good a bottle as possible from the tiny selection and for his troubles got a complete soaking from the rather inclement rain we are currently having. So while I slip into my second evening attire I thought I would share this with you. Fortunately, when the port is finished with for the evening, my cabinet is well stocked with remy martin so another soaking won't be required.
Regards to all
Bob
sorry to hear of your soaking bob. you sound quite a foodie? any chance of an invite round for a sample? we once met near to the mount at the warren. you had just left the mount pleasant inn and was in high spirits! a sound chap i must admit. i wonder if they ever found that pound coin you left on the track? i haven't seen your friend mr carr lately. is he still around boasting of his birdies on teignmouth? he promised me a round on the warren but haven't heard back from him, i guess it was the cognac speaking!!!
Visiting your lovely town again next week. Will keep my eye out for you Bob.Will no doubt take a stroll along the front.
Not sure if anyone can answer this but here goes. What happened to the lovely couple that owned Red Rock Cafe.Always very friendly and the food was good.Seems to have gone down hill a bit with the latest owners.
I always remember the woman waving at the Train drivers.I guess they have retired and moved inland(ha ha)
I'd heard the woman had run off with one of the train drivers. The bloke was really miserable about it (although he said it wasn't his wife!). Who knows what goes on in that little hutch!!!
Actually gentlemen, if timing is critical to you, the events as I recall happened like this: consumed meal and wine, went to shop and got soaked, returned and changed, sat down and had cheese board and fine port, checked how the dow jones had performed on my computer, wrote a short piece on here, returned to guests with a bottle of cognac and three glasses. The rest im afraid became a blur! I hope this puts the pair of your minds to rest. I wouldn't want you worrying over a triviality.
Bob
ps the reprobates have asked for an invite again in August!
Leaving ones guests whilst you dilly dally on a computer is no trivial thing methinks! Hardly the behaviour of a gentleman.
They were all for my quick perusal onto the internet, as they also have large holdings on the stock market. Although, one of their "sleeping giants" is still waiting to wake up. A mining company by the name of Angus and Ross which they have talked me into chalking up a rather unhealthy financial outlay on. But I suppose at only 5 pence a share it's worth the risk. If they are right and it takes off, hopefully Mr Sinkerson will grace the Dawlish streets in a nice new Bentley!
Maybe you should look at Shoregold or Theissen Mining. Both companies are involved in a diamond mining exploration project at the Fort Al a Corne diamond mine about one hour from here.....here being Saskatchwan, Canada. Several million dollars have been invested so far and the word is that the mine looks ready to take off!
