Ziggy posted this on another thread.

After watching the trees being cut down at sandy lane playing fields ready for the start of the skate Park, let's hope it's not going to be a one minute or even a one year wonder.
After speaking to one of the workmen involved he told me it's not often they have to cut down perfectly good trees.

One wonders if the skate park could have been built on a different part of the park and avoided the slaughter of such healthy trees!!!!

Have I got this right?

Five perfectly healthy trees have been cut down AND lots of grass will get replaced with concrete?

They HAVE heard of global warming haven't they?

Education, Education, Education.
Teach them all about global warming, and how to protect planet earth. And then teach them how to destroy it with a chain saw.
Good in'it!
When they snapped a sappling off on the lawn, Cllr Ted Hockin was in tears. What action will he take now to hold back the tears?

Does Hockin really like trees? Or were they crocodile tears? After all, he is very close friends with the embodiment of tree choppers, W & M. Protheroe.

I know they are cutting down these trees, but they will be replacing the trees with newly planted ones, moved slightly further forward to accommodate the skate park. Just thought I'd let you all know.

I think you'll find that we know they are replacing the mature trees with saplings.

You are missing the point.

Why did those trees have to be cut down?? Why not have made the skatepark smaller and not have to sacrifice the trees in the first place?

SO the trees are going to be replaced with saplings.
Do you honestly think they will be left long enough to mature!!

Teignbridge Council has an obsession with cutting down perfectly healthy trees. Do they not realise that these trees absorb great quantities of water. When we next have tropical rain storms the council will be telling us all off for concreting over our gardens and therefore causing flooding. Does cause and effect not spring to mind?

Don't forget that the skatepark will be made of concrete. So...not only have they cut down trees but will also be concreting over grass.

Nice one Teignbridge!

There is no pleasing some people!! One minute you are all moaning that children are playing in the streets with there skateboards and causing problems, so it is agreed that a skate park is to be built so that children have somewhere to play or hang out and now your moaning about that, I agree it is a shame about the trees but just think what is going to be taken down when Tescos is built.

all of us want our town to improve, but all this business with the supermarkets just proves that we have councillors who are in the pockets of huge corporate companies....while pretending to have the interests of Dawlish at heart. Some of these councillors are telling big porky-pies and laughing at us all.

I can see they've started digging the area where the skate park will be but am not sure why they are also digging out at the top of the golf course?!?! Does anyone know what that is for???

How fitting that wally protheroe should be there to witness the tree felling and digging, as both he, and his son malcolm, have chopped down quite a few trees in their time, whilst building their empire. But of course, they do it all for the people of Dawlish....don't they?!

LOCAL. I don't think anyone on this thread have said they don't want the kids to have a skate park.
The problem being cutting down perfectly healthy trees to accommodate it. Surely it could have been built on another part of the green.

protheroe (and his vacuous wife),bush, prowse and winchester were there to massage their egos. And what for?! A piece meal skate-park that has been pushed forward as a PR stunt, while ignoring the wishes of the adjacent residents. When will the residents of Dawlish realise that the likes of protheroe (as well as, hockin, bush, clemens, prowse, winchester) are using these projects as a conduit to line their pockets and advance their personal wealth?

WAKE UP DAWLISH AND SMELL THE CORRUPTION! DON'T BE FOOLED BY THEIR DECEPTION!

VOTE THEM OUT AT THE NEXT ELECTION AND SEE THE CHANGE. WATCH DAWLISH THRIVE WITHOUT THEM.

I think they have taken up the turfs to accommodate the earth which they are disposing of from the skate park area. It will be interesting to see what happens to the turfs, maybe the council will sell them off!!!

Blame it on protheroe! He is using Dawlish to pursue his family's personal greed. Meanwhile....the residents of Dawlish stand by believing the likes of protheroe actually represent them. The truth is, they are just out for themselves. Protheroes personal wealth has grown in parallel with his council office. Do you need any more proof? This man is taking Dawlish for a ride!
