A couple of days ago i went into No 1 Cafe in Dawlish for a coffee and some lunch a few days ago. As a regular there i was surprised to see at a table indoors there were 2 Paris Hilton wanabees with their handbag dogs! Even worse, one of the girls was letting her dog drink out of her saucer at the table. This i feel was totally unacceptable and not very professional and very unhygenic to say the least. Please No 1, keep dogs outside your cafe!

Whilst I certainly would not feed my dog from a saucer in a cafe, I must stand up for Marilyn's right to allow dogs (with 4 legs) into her cafe. Contrary to popular misapprehension there are no hygiene risks and so long as the animal is well trained no disturbance to other customers.

It saddens me that some people are so anti dog when walking around Dawlish you see so many discarded ciggie packets, sweet rappers, beer cans , crisp wrappers, etc etc.

I clean up after my dog every time, without exception, if only some humans would clear up their mess Dawlish would look so much cleaner.

Can i just put the point across that i am not anti-dogs, as i have had my own dogs in the past, i just dont think its appropriate to have them sharing the same plates as paying customers in cafes.......would you eat your dinner out of your dogs bowl off the floor....i dont think so!

And in comes Viaduct, and I hope people read what I say and not just think what I have said.
I LIKE DOGS! Got it? I LIKE DOGS!
It is the owners of some dogs that give me most concern.
The smell of some dogs is not something I personally desire, But the owner of those dogs are usually to blaim for that smell, NOT THE DOG.
The dog owner that leaves their dog faeces in a public area has to shoulder the blame for all the critical remarks that eminate from, NON DOG OWNERS, not the critic.

Paris Hilton wannabees, but i thought you wanted Dawlish to go upmarket? You should be glad to see them.

When you noticed the dog drinking from the saucer , did you speak to the manager?

Health and safety wise , it is not something a food or drinks outlet should be doing(or allowing to happen). They are allowed to offer designated bowls.

Dawlish couldn't go upmarket and up in the world if you strapped a rocket to it and sent it into space! Too many people driving and walking around thinking they are in Monaco.....noses in the air. Or could that be the smell from the sewage plant in dawlish warren?

How can you think Paris Hilton is upmarket! Also Dawlish doesnt need to go upmarket, it just needs a bit of TLC. We live in a beautiful place.

Why would anyone want to be regarded as a Paris PORN STAR Hilton or did you not realise thats what she is?

Thank heavens for Cafe No1 and Baileys. It's about time someone took a stand and let dogs in their cafe's.There are many, many cafe's in Dawlish where dogs can't go. Perhaps shopaholic would like to try one of those instead.

The most annoying phrase on earth, as far as I'm concerned, is "health and safety". This is what staff say to you, head cocked in fake apology, when they're explaining why you can't bring your dog in with you. In truth, though, there is no such legislation against having dogs where food is served - it is at the establishment's discretion. If they don't take dogs, it's because they don't want to, and they ought to have the courage of their misguided convictions to say so.
I do remember a dog with a bad dose of dioreha (spelt that wrong but that is how it comes out when you have it---- all over the place) in a cafe once, no more and not since even though there has been change of ownerships.
Lesson to be learnt maybe!

I have a much better idea, why dont you sit outside the cafe and share a bowl of water with your dog.

If we are all going to be facetious in these exchanges I suggest you close this site.
Dawlish relies on tourism for its economy to survive. It is also provided with more self catering holiday caravans, and camp sites where families can bring their dogs away on holiday with them. Consequently, there are a very large number of people who come into the town and would like somewhere to take a meal (sometimes in the rain) where they can take their dog with them. If you want proof of numbers look on the beaches where dogs are allowed and see how many family groups have a dog with them.
Well trained family pets (not pampered pooches) can lie quietly under tables and cause offence to no-one.

Woof woof, my human friends.

Despite what some of the hound-haters on here might say, I'll have you know that I'm extremely hygienic and my standards of cleanliness are very high!!

For example, like most of my fellow canine friends, I lick clean my ballbags and chocolate starfish at least 30 times a day. THAT'S how clean I am, thanks you. I bet you filthy stinking humans aren't so hygienic!

I don't understand why humans don't like me to go into cafes and restaurants. I'm ever so sociable and I love meeting humans and being petted by them (especially small ones) SO much that to show my appreciation I often give them a sloppy kiss on the face. Aaahh, aren't I cute little doggie-woggie?

Woof, Woof.
