Hi. Me and my partner are coming to visit in august and would like to know a few places to go that are nice?
WE are staying in a quiet campsite (not one of those touristy places) and want to try and find the stuff off the beaten track as it were...
We are young so hills aint a problem lol.
Well you can spend a few enjoyable hours in Dartmoore Becky Falls there is great
Suggest that you get information from the Tourist Centre as it is difficult to know what to recommend another person.
Enjoy your time in Devon
if you have a car, you can go trekking across dartmoor thats nice in the summer, or you have bicton biotanical gardens in buckfastleigh if thats your sort of thing.
Could try Canonteign Falls, Haytor, & walk to far end of Warren Spit.
Take a visit into the Haldon hills aswell.
See Lawrence Castle and the Obelisk.
The coastal path is a good walk, with some great places to eat along the way.
When you've had enough, catch the bus or train back.
Do not eat in dawlish warren....you will end up paying tourist prices. I would suggest making a fresh healthy packed lunch and taking plenty to drink, plus maybe a bottle of wine if the weather's good. Much more enjoyable than sitting in a grotty touristy pub....and you can take it wherever you go and eat when you like.
Food in the Warren isnt up to much. If your heading towards Exeter, drop in at either pub in Cockwood . Numerous places to eat in Dawlish, Teignmouth, Shaldon(catch the ferry over for 70p).
avoid the anchor inn in cockwood. overpriced menu due to inflated reputation from mickey-mouse awards. dawlish isnt very good for restaurants but siew mai chinese takeaway is very good.
I agree about the awards from 20 years ago, but think the food is very good although slightly dearer, but then you get what you pay for. The best thing though is a great pint.
