What happens when the oil runs out

So....... what happens when the oil runs out PERMANENTLY and/or the 'west' loses its grip over the middle-eastern oil producing countries and/or they (and Russia) decide to flex their oil rich muscles and say " No oil, gas, petrol for you, you countries whose regimes we don't like" (ie us and other secular democracies) what happens to us then eh?

We could be on the end of economic (oil) sanctions! Oh, how ironic is that?

And how would we eat?

Think! This tanker strike is a salutory lesson for us all. Look how dependant we are on oil and petrol and YET WE DO NOT HAVE ANY NATURAL SUPPLIES OF OUR OWN! Yes, we had North Sea gas but that is running out - fast.

We need to think ahead, and plan accordingly. Locally produced energy (wind farms?) and locally produced goods. Think small, think sustainable, think survival.

Forget wind farms! Unless you can find a way to make the things cheaper than they are made now, unless you can find someone to install them cheaper than they will now, unless you can get a constant stream of fairly strong wind, you are on a hiding to nothing.
Subsidies are there only to encourage the things. When maintenance is required, where will that subsidy come from. Wind farms all over America are being left in a state of disrepair, because there is no money to repair them.
Like so many new technologies, they cost a lot to start with and no doubt millions will be made by someone in the production process. But unless there is a return on the investment, it is a dead duck.
