Is it just coincidence that the number of new beach huts match the number of councillors on Dawlish Town Council? They also appear to be painted in Party colours......with each hut allocated four padlocks.

Are we to assume there will be a new summer amusement on the Warren? A fantastic new game where kids (and adults) can place councillors in their respective hut, padlock it and send it out to sea!

Excellent idea!
Much better fun than sponsoring the annual duck race.
Instead of Rotary taking from you, you can now send them by sea on one of their exchanges.
Who cares a toss about twinning anyway

Have just seen new beach huts featured on Westcountry News.....again! For something thats new they're being flogged like a Grand National Horse! Seems to be regular features on the warren.....i smell the aroma of a resort in decline and desperate to avoid death. Wouldn't be anything to do with the mayor frightened of seeing very little return on his wendy house, would it?!

Who in their right mind would pay such exorbitant prices to stay in such a shabby place, when you could holiday abroad....at least twice, for the same cost?

I wish our Mayor Protheroe had put his million pounds where his mouth is and built the long awaited (and still waiting) Youth Club. Especially as he is always harking on about what he does for the youth of Dawlish. Heaven knows he's been on the council long enough.....long enough to have built 2 or 3 Youth Clubs! Instead, he puts his efforts into personal building....erecting apartments that scream greed not altruism.

Never mind....they will build a skate park soon (how soon is anyone's guess). That will keep the kids and parents quiet.......

Holiday twice abroad for the same price?
Where Wales!
Just shows how out of touch you are, or do you spend your foreign holidays sleeping on the beach?

You seem to be the one out of touch! Go on numerous websites and you can find thousands of holidays in amazing countries....at very, very low prices; many of them half-board. Much more cost effective than staying at Costa Lot Mount Apartments....and that's not even taking into account the fact you have to buy food as well! Also...if you decide to venture up to the pub itself, you best prepare yourself for the most expensive greasy spoon you will ever encounter!

I got stung once....never again. I never even got window seat i requested.... i was informed by one of the waitresses there that these are given to local friends/favourites.

And here is more spin from a Lying-Walker. And I haven't looked yet, but I bet he is one of the inner circle and a lib dem.

A Perfect 10 for Dawlish Warren
Dawlish Warren Family Beach Resort is celebrating a decade of indubitable quality this June with news that it has achieved the prestigious Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) Blue Flag Award for the tenth year in a row.

In celebration of the achievement a new Blue Flag mural has been commissioned for the wall of Teignbridge Council's resorts office. Painted by local artist Ben Yates, the mural commemorates the event and will serve as a lasting reminder of Dawlish Warren's quality.

Judged one of the top resorts in the UK, Dawlish Warren attracts visitors from across the globe, and will now be flying the international FEE Blue Flag for a historic tenth year.

The internationally renowned award is only presented to those beaches that pass the very strictest of criteria for environmental management, visitor facilities, cleanliness and clean bathing waters, meaning that residents and visitors to the resort can expect a top quality experience.

It is hoped the coveted accolade will continue to help attract visitors, as well as providing local traders, the community and hardworking Teignbridge staff with an extra positive focus for the summer season.

Cllr David Weekes, Chairman of Teignbridge District Council, will be unveiling the new mural and raising the flag for Dawlish Warren on Wednesday 11th June at 10.00am. Photographers are invited to attend.

Cllr David Corney-Walker, Teignbridge Executive Spokesperson for Economic Development and Tourism said:

"It is testament to the commitment of Teignbridge to quality open spaces and the promotion and retention of tourism that we have achieved this award year on year since 1999.

"We are delighted to win it for 2008, and it's a great reward for the hard work and commitment demonstrated by Teignbridge staff and local traders all year round.

"The Award criteria are notoriously strict and there was a lot of competition, so the fact that Dawlish Warren has triumphed once again reaffirms its position as a top-quality, clean, green and safe resort."

The Blue Flag has become the definitive international measure of beaches since it began in 1987. A highly effective monitoring system, it measures everything from accessibility for disabled visitors through to the amount of bins provided and litter left on the beach. Water must be clean enough to have achieved the highest standard defined by International Law.

All award winners are permitted to fly a Blue Flag during the bathing season and must display their water quality and the facilities they provide on 'easy to read' signs at the beach. Award winners are monitored regularly and if standards slip, the flag will be taken down.

Blue Flags are a political vehicle to persuade people to holiday in certain resorts. Undoubtedly this involves backhanders by those who benefit.

How about all of us who pay our water rates.....which facilitates this 'superior water' process......getting a Blue Flag as well?
