What? No carrier bags. I know they're not good for the planet but to take them without warning?

What are you agreeing with?
1. That the co-op has stopped providing plastic bags

or

2.With the original posting that expressed indignation that no warning had been given.

It's not the end of the world to have a bag with you when you go shopping, well haps is in Dawlish! Always plenty of cardboard boxes around that anyone can use.

What a joke our co-op is many times they run out of stock, I wonder what will happen when the children are on holiday and we are full of tourists.
I shopped at the co-op today and the FREE Bags were back as it seems they ran out of the ones you pay for, it can only get worse

Has it ever occurred to any of you who moan about the service at the Co-op to aim your complaints at its head office?

Bag Lady. I would think not. People on here as you have seen love to rubbish the Coop, just like they hated Somerfield. Rest assured next will be Tesco and Sainsburys.
Actually if everything is out of stock, to me that means they sell lots.
Whatever anyone says is always twisted to suit.

Amazed--- Take the blinkers off. The fact they have not got it in stock does not only mean they sell lots you idiot.
It could mean that some other idiot forgot to order new stock, it could also mean that the product has been removed for some other reason. Raw material shortages or the like is just one of many reasons why you may never see some products again.
I remember some idiot called Connett, I believe he is some sort of a lib dem councillor said, " That as there are 70% of Dawlish people that shop out of Dawlish, there is a need for another supermarket". How on earth did he deduce that?

Amazed, If you quite happy trying to shop and find they are out of stock, good luck to you. I believe it is down to bad managemet and planning.

Like I've already said - if you think bad management and planning is behind the ills of the co-op then go and complain to the co-op's HQ and stop whinging about it here.

I assure you I am far from being an idiot. Can't you participate in this forum without hurling around insults?

If you have contacted the Co-op HQ about the service etc what response did you get?

I shop in Tesco's dislike going out of town but until we have a decent supermarket have no choice.

I have had two bad experiences in the Co-op one was in the big one in Teignmouth I took a trolley to the large checkout three people were working it. I was told in no uncertain terms that trolleys are not allowed as it is 10 or under items, I had seven items? I cannot hold a basket as I am disabled. I was not asking for help putting my food where the basket goes. I ended up in tears and left the shopping. Am still waiting for a reply from head office??

Second one was in Dawlish lady at the checkout asked if I had a loyalty card I replied "no I don't shop in here very often as it is took expensive" I was accused of being abusive as she pointed to a sign behind her.

I am a disabled pensioner who never gets irate or nasty with anyone

Thought people just cant wait for Tesco Dawlish .. is planned to be half the size of Newton, so get ready for the complaints to roll in. This is Dawlish.
Did my shop online with Asda this week, no points, just low prices.

So........if the planned supermarket whether Tesco or Sainsbury ain't really gonna be that big, what's the point in 'aving it?

Their customers will be from outside of Dawlish. Dawlish people will still go outside of town, it is the way that people shop. I know people in Newton who go to Yorquay and people in Plymouth that go to Exeter .. its a crazy world yet they complain of fuel costs. Best way is to do orders online, no traffic and irritable people around.
What Anon says under 'New Ideas' is just so true.

Back to the original message....I understand it may have been frustrating that there were no carrier bags, but there has been lots of publicity about using recyclable bags. Whilst holidaying in Cosica last year, I bought 2 large bags, as they have no plastic carrier bags at all over there. I take these bags each week when I do my shopping, and my week's shopping fits into these two bags. I also have a carrier bag folded in my handbag and use this if I am doing any local shopping. It's not difficult, and I feel that I am being a responsible adult.
