Just got the 2005-2015 booklet through the door.
If the aim is to encourage Dawlish in every way ...I think it will put anyone off the place. Mentions the lack of this, lack of that, no Supermarket etc ..all negative.. doesn't exactly fly the flag for Dawlish. Why be SO negative ??? ..must be one good thing surely ?
Also as usual no praise for the existing shops ..quote 'lack of choice of shops and cafes' I bet they called on each for some money for the booket production. I seem to remember reading on here complaints of too many cafes.
Ho affordable housing ...for goodness sake anyone can sell a house at 1970's prices IF they want ... but they DON'T do they?
In the list of major issues in Dawlish .. there is no mention of the RAILWAY and the problem with the high tide. Well that proves a clear point .. if the track is forced to close and move away from Dawlish it is not going to worry the Regeneration Group. No mention of buses either .. Dawlish has a bus EVERY 15 minutes during the day to Exeter and Teignmouth ..bet they are too proud to travel on a bus ! wonder what under the projects section 'improving local transport' means?
I'm not impressed...perhaps others will be.
No mention of beaches.. crazy ! ...you wouldn't think Dawlish was by the sea if it wasn't for the pictures.
Under issues 'traffic cingestion in the Strand' .. I would soon solve that and make it delivery lorries only.
Have a look at their website .. it's www.dawlishtommorow.com ... see if you arrive at the same thoughts as me and report back!
Just had a read, I'm actually looking at moving into Dawlish so this is quite interesting. Bit disappointed that so many local traders have closed recently. Hopefully some of their intiatives would reverse that. I do think they are giving too much priority to having a "supermarket" for the town though. Dawlish is a nice local town currently without a Tesco Metro or similar which makes a nice change from most towns and I would be against a Tesco appearing here. If you're going to have a supermarket then you need to put it in the town or you'll drive out shoppers and retailers and there isn't really room or a need for anything other than something the size of Somerfield in the town. I would like to see a refurb of the Somerfield though as it's a bit scummy!
Strand traffic.
Still allow one way vehicles through, but eliminate all parking on the road side, which is crazy. Widen the pavement accordingly, to narrow the road, whilst still allowing lorries to off load on the 'widened pavement'. Simple. Surely that wouldn't be too expensive.

Oh for pity's sake! The Regeneration Group's aim is to IMPROVE Dawlish - it won't need to improve things that are already good! So of course they won't be mentioned! Don't be such a turnip head. It gets money from the Gov to do this and the 'negatives' as you call them, are what came out of the public consulation exercise a year or so ago.
Anyway I wish them the best of luck. I'm leaving Dawlish and glad to be doing so. Its got lots of potential but I don't think it will ever be realised. The 'negatives' ie thriving drugs scene, tacky lower end of market shops, blinkered tourist-orientated business interests, loopy one-issue obsessed councillors and a plethora of brain dead people will make sure of that.
