As a vistor to Dawlish I was surprised to learn that Teignbridge Council were initially supportive of Railtrack's plan to demolish the Dawlish signal box. You'd think they'd have been keen to preserve your cultral heritage - the railway has been very important to the South West.

What a shame it required action outside bodies like the Department of Culture, Media and Sport and the Planning Inspectorate in Bristol to recognise its historic importance.

Hopefully someone will be able to raise the money to restore the signal box to its former glory and and add even more to your beautiful coastline! I'll contribute!

Does anyone know if Network Rail would consider selling the Signal Box?

I don't think it's got any utilities and the restrictions imposed on buying it will probably not make it worthwhile. I've evey confidence they'll leave it alone until it befalls some 'accident' and they'll get their wish to demolish it. It's a shame, it should be put to some good use
