Lets have some suggestions and ideas to raise this town out of the mid 20th century. Set our sights high in this respect mind you. Think about lay-out, presentation, events, what standards we as residents and customers of the local businesses and indeed of the council want and have the right to demand. This place needs a really good make over and could be a superb town - not just for the tourists and the businesses that depend on them but for the RESIDENTS also. Just imagine.....

Well, I am amazed. No pushy parents suggesting that their little darlings should be centre stage at some local event. Give it time. After all, this is Dawlish

First get rid of all the whingers and moaners.

The theatre could be used for other forms of entertainment as well as plays and cinema.Music nights Bands Exhibitions etc. My daughter lives up North in a town the size of Dawlish they do this in their theatre, its a great success and they haven't got a tourist trade.

I suggest Anon rather than spouting off about youngsters you should contribute positively.

Get a town council that has the best intersts of the town in mind one who will work with the people of the town

There is no 'heart' in Dawlish, as long as you have your beloved pubs and football is all you need, otherwise there would have been heeps of suggestions and ideas for a 'New' Dawlish.

People have given up, as soon as an idea is suggested.. look at the critics. The Ice Ring idea is one fine example. If I were the ice ring organisers I would put it in Teignmouth in future.
I am moving!

its really hard to run a business in the town when you don't always get support from locals and have to rely on tourists to try and make some money. its all very well complaining about " decent shops" but would you support them if they were there? there are lovely florists, local bakeries, greengrocers, butchers, delis, new clothes shops, new cafes - what is it that the locals want?

And can I just point out that it will be even harder to run a business in the town when that ******** supermarket gets built!!!!!

What hope then for the florists, the bakers, the greengrocers, Threshers, the newsagents etc
in the town centre. Eh?

And don't forget the newsagents and the mini market by Marina Garage.

And the stores in Dawlish Warren.

And if Sainsbury's (or Tesco for that matter) build a petrol station that'll be the Marina Garage up the swannee 'n all.

Think Dawlish - THINK!!!

WENT IN STOKES THE OTHER DAY.

EVERYTHING WAS FOREIGN.
THE STRAWBERRIES WERE FROM HOLLAND AND BELGUIM.
VINE TOMATOES=SENEGAL
GRAPES=INDIA (SURELY THEIR ARE NEARER PLACES)
CARROTS=HOLLAND
POTATOES=EGYPT

I ONLY FOUND ONE BRITISH ITEM AND ONE IRISH.

MAYBE A SHOP SELLING MORE LOCALLY GROWN PRODUCE WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA.

UNTIL STOKES SELL SOME BRITISH PRODUCE , I WONT BE GOING BACK

think you'll find thats the case in supermarkets too? unfortunatly us consumers want veg all year round rather than seasonally as it should be so greengrocers have to buy from abroad to keep up with demand....so its our fault really!!

how come the flower shop has been selling english tomatoes, and english srawberries are everywhere, not to mention english potatoes and onions.Its strange how Stokes cant seem to find theses.I bought my toms from the flower shop and strawbs elsewhere.i too have been disappointed with Stokes lately.Dont get me wrong, i will always support l;ocal shops rather than supermarkets, but i'm dammed if i will support a shop that doesnt stock any british produce(especially when it is availible and in season).Book your ideas up Stokes and you will retain my custom.
