The only reason I can see for Tesco to be back and tipping their hat again for having a supermarket in the town (rumour has it on the site of Lady's Mile caravan site) is that they must have done their homework and think they have a good chance of getting planning permission. Otherwise why bother?
Sainsbury's site is only up the road remember.
I would be interested to have your thoughts on this.
Could we end up with the two of them?
We could quite possibly end up with both Sainsbury's and Tesco, both situated far enough away from the town centre for people not to bother with the local shops.
It must be a worrying time for our local traders!
I guess people want two stores so they can rubbish one or the other at a later date, Dawlish is just so good at that.
That is a HUGE site. Far too big for the size of supermarket that Dawlish (apparently) needs. Even if you were to include a car park and, say, a petrol station there would still be a lot of land left over.
What could that be used for? A retail park? And/or perhaps Tesco would want it to expand their store sometime in the future.
