Hurry!, Hurry!, Hurry!. If you want a by election to be called following the resignation of one of the Dawlish town councillors then at least 10 signatures as per 1. below must be with the Returning Officer at TDC by Wednesday 30th April.
No letter(s) = no by election = present councillors will decide. Is that democratic?
1. Election. For this to happen at least 10 electors on the Dawlish Electoral Register must register that they wish a by election to take place. These electors must write (not e-mail) a letter to The Returning Officer, Electoral Roll Dept, Forde House, Newton Abbot. The letter must give electors' names and addresses and MUST BE SIGNED BY EACH ELECTOR. This doesn't have to take the form of 10 separate letters - it can just be the one signed by (at least) 10 members of the Dawlish Parish electorate.
This letter/these letters must be received by the Returning Officer no later than 14 days after the date of the resignation. The date of the official resignation was Wednesday 9th April.
If at least 10 electors call for a by election as per above, that by election must take place within 60 days of the councillor resigning.
For more info contact Cathy Ruelens at the Electoral Roll dept, TDC. Tel: 01626 361101.
2. Co-option. If a by-election isn't called the Councillor vacancy will be filled by the present councillors co-opting someone. In other words, instead of the Dawlish electorate deciding who should be elected the present councillors will do so.
After an humungous cockup by mr town clerk in the wording of the notice he published and then placed in a conspicuous place, (The Manor House), THERE WILL BE NO BYE-ELECTION.
THE WORDING ON THE NOTICE SAID,"If a poll is claimed by ten electors of this Parish",--- That was done by several electors of the Parish.
Teignbridge District Council has divorced themselves from the word Parish and claimed it should have read "Ward".
Therefore, those that bothered to call for a poll, were not eligible, as they did not come from the WARD in which the vacancy occurred.
To think that I was forced fed in prison and one of my sisters threw herself in front of the king's racehorse to help get us women the vote in this country yet, with one bureaucratic b**lls up, that very same right to vote has been denied my sisters in south- west ward.
Shame on you who did not do things properly.
I suggest that we demand that the Town Clerk resigns . I also suggest that we turn up at the next council meeting and vent our anger. Isnt there a standards commitee in London that acts as a court on dodgy council decisions.
Its time to get this corrupt council out.
I don't think it is corrupt.More incompetent. And the councillors and the electorate can only act on the advice given to them by the officer(s) of the Council.
On the main page of this forum there is a thread
Discussion Dawlish Town Council, maybe we should
all register and put our misgivings on there.
Ineptitude or corruption this state of affairs
cannot go on.
Now here is your chance to voice yor concerns to councillors, without having to go to their meetings.
