It is so sad to see that dawlish has been ruined by dogs mess. Why dont people just clean up after there dogs just like they would if it was in their homes!!!!!!!!!!

Well if you walk around Dawlish scanning the floor you are going to miss the beauty of the area, the brook is an unuaual addition to this little town, both in the day and night. With reguards to the dog poo, I would like to point out that a lot of the mess is unfortunatly due to visitors who do not have to clear their mess in their oun towns. I myself have two dogs whom I allways clear up after.(even at night)whilst out on our walks, all the other owners that I come across also carry bags and clear up after their pets. However as usual its the minority that spoil things for the majority. But what about the cats! who picks up their mess!!! They poop aswell you know!!!!!!!

cats bury it and dont leave it all over the pavement and a lot of dog owners leave it and walk off

Sorry to disagree with you Jam100 but there are a lot of cats who don't bury their excrement.
I have myself witnessed on many occasion a cat digging relieving its self and just walking away.

Yes, but if it was digging it obviously wasn't leaving it on the pavement for someone to step in.

The problem with cats are they always like to dig soil which has been freshly dug.
Image having spent many a back aching hours in your garden or allotment planting your seeds hoping for a fruitful result only to see your fury friend digging them up!!

I had the Dog Warden knock on my door a while back saying it had been reported that i dont pick up after my dog which is not true.

Maybe i walk my dog in the wrong places but i dont really see a dog fouling problem in dawlish but i agree there are still people who wont pick up after there dogs but i dont see it as a major problem in Dawlish.

Dont be so ignorant, dog poo as you call it as if its something trivial can render children blind, educate youself and google "dog poo deases" and im sure you will change your mind about just how hazardous this stuff is.

Thats a week excuse, we dont have that many visitors at this time of the year, ive seen many locals especially on the beaches ignoring there mutts whilst they natter to each other whilst there mutts are craping everywhere and they dont even notice, at least not untill ive pointed it out to them and admittedly at this point if they can find it before some unsuspecting member of the public stands in it they pick it up.

Cat shit is worse - the filthy little bastards should all be rounded up and summarily executed.

I'm sick to death of these dirty vermin dropping their load in my garden (it's never their owner's garden, is it?).

Can anyone recommend any decent deterrent?

Get yourself a dog.

Mrs Roy and myself both work full-time, so leaving a dog home alone all day is neither right nor fair.

I'm thinking of a somewhat more 'permanent' deterrent for these vile creatures.

a boa constrictor in the garden might do the trick.

Yes it does in deed. You can attend a seminar with Chris Crudelli, Star of TV's 'Mind Body & Kick Ass Moves' on February 28th in Newton Abbot.

Or the Action Movie Actor Silvio Simac Seminar on May 9th in Newton Abbot.

That's better than dog mess.

A long gone friend of mine used to collect dead bits of Gorse from under Gorse bushes, he cut it up into two inch bits and spread that around his garden - it worked miracles, they don't like it up'em.

Ive had this problem in the past and a friend said to put some clear plastic bottles of water around the garden because this is alien to them and wont go near them hense keeping them away, and it actually worked (cat shit is still not as bad as dog shit though)sorry.

For decades the mother of a friend of mine had a garden strewn with clear plastic water bottles for this purpose. I always found it amusing because, even if it worked, it completely spoiled the look of the garden.

However, knowing cats as I do, I think that it might work for a short time. Once the cat realised that the bottles were not a threat their effectiveness would be lost,

Dee I think you have that wrong that it does no harm....
Dog feces are one of the most common carriers of the following diseases:

Heartworms
Whipworms
Hookworms
Roundworms
Tapeworms
Parvo
Corona
Giardiasis
Salmonellosis
Cryptosporidiosis
Campylobacteriosis

If you get one of these viruses me thinks you'll think again... Cheers Sid
