Was in Dawlish last week, have been many times. We were trying to remember the name of the big pub which was by the railway station. I think it is flats now. Can anyone remember and stop us pondering?

I think The Grand Hotel was where the block of flats are on Exeter Road, near Lanherne. Can't think of the name at the moment. If I remember rightly, there was a swimming pool where the car park now is and they used to have a pool party or something every carnival day. Vague memories as I was only six or seven when it closed about 20 years ago.

The hotel along the Exeter Road near Lanherne was the Charlton House Hotel owned by Mr&Mrs Mould.
The Grand Hotel used to be by the station and is now flats.
The Royal Hotel used to be where Stewarts is now situated.

Just a little trivia if anyone is interested. The famous rock group Simple Minds once played a concert at the Dawlish Grand Hotel. I have just had a look at some of my memorablia and it was the Life in a Day Tour, 11 April, 1979. A close friend was involved with the hotel, and although not quite my taste, it was a memorable event in more ways than one. I wonder if anyone else has any recollections of the event?!

thanks everyone, don't remember the Simple Minds concert but were visiting Dawlish in the seventies and like most regular visitors spend a lot of time these days saying "what used to be there"?
