This is from the Mid Devon Advertiser report on yesterdays by-elections written by Ellen Grindley, see;
Mr Wrigley continues to sit as a district councillor for Dawlish since his election to parliament two years ago.
Questions have been raised why he has not resigned his district seat while carrying out his MP responsibilities.
He had previously said this was to avoid the costs of a by-election.
Following the latest Dawlish by-election, he said: ‘Yesterday was Dawlish south west, my seat is north east so it would have been significantly more.
‘However, in light of local government reorganisation, Teignbridge Council has less than a year left of being an independent council, for a new councillor it can take that long to get to grips with how the council works.
‘Also it is helpful to see local government reorganisation from the council viewpoint as well as Westminster.’
Nothing to do with an additional £5K a year from the District Councillor allowance then. No comment about how he can do both roles. No comment about the ethics of doing so and blocking others from participating as Councillors. And of course no mention of the recent changes to Councillors pensions that came into effect, how convenient. Just arrogance.
Had Wrigley stood down as District Councillor directly after being elected MP in July 2024 a new Councillor would've had almost two years 'to get to grips with how the council works'.
Had he stood down as District COuncillor in February 2025, when he quit as Town Councillor (a role without an allowance), a new Councillor would have had over 16 months 'to get to grips with how the council works'.
He clearly thinks people accept his constant BS. Just as well for him that only 3:10 registered voters give a toss.
