Not that it is ever publicized but two Liberal Democrat Councillors on Dawlish Town Council have recently left the party to join the Green Party.
Cllr Rachel Hardy (Dawlish SW) and Cllr Anthony James (Dawlish NE), the former Mayor have both switched parties recently.
It appears there is a schism within the local Liberal Democrat party, a Teignmouth District Councillor Andrew Henderson has also left to become an independent.
It is a pattern that the local Liberal Democrat party loses Cllrs during the course of an administration. The above is nothing new. Following the 2023 local election the Liberal Democrats held 10:16 Town Cllr positions, a majority. They now have 6 Cllrs and are desperate to get disgraced Cllr Gary Taylor re-elected in the Dawlish SW by-election following the death of Lib Dem Cllr M. James. Lib Dem Cllr Pyne left the Lib Dems half-way through the administration and now 2 Cllrs have switched to an opposition party.
