Are there any jobs in Dawlish? Thinking of moving there.
Is there an economy as such?
What can people earn there?

In answer to your questions - no, there aren't jobs in Dawlish. Theres very little in Dawlish at all. The 'economy' is built on the tourist trade - the lower end of the market. No restaurants, no family friendly pubs, just drinking dens. No B&B - WHY???????
A truly depressing place to live - we've been here 18 months and thats enough- we are moving to Exeter. Nothing has changed here for years and I doubt if it ever will.
The Blenheim can be recommended as a B & B. Generally it is self catering rooms but B & B is an option with breakfast served in the room.
The current owners have been there nearly 20 years.
Check out their website.
Easy.

Yes, but when you go to other Devon resorts you see pleasant little B&Bs everywhere. If Dawlish was normal, all those Regency buildings opposite Tucks Plot would be B&Bs with hanging baskets.
I daresay this is probably the sole survivor in Dawlish hotels.
A lot of my childhood was spent hanging upside down in one of their fisherman's nets suspended between two trees.
Perhaps the lack of hotels, B & B's, and Holiday flats in Dawlish is its appeal to many people, with the Holiday parks being in Dawlish Warren.
Very few tourists about during the week so never gets crowded. Just the day trippers at weekends.
Dawlish is what I call a Low key resort.
I'd much rather see a nice B&B with hanging baskets than a dilapidated flat with rubbish piled up outside. Also they might attract more upmarket tourists which would lead to better shops and cafes etc etc.
You have to admit it. Dawlish is a downmarket town, run by the retired for the retired. The front page of todays Dawlish post says it all - the first development in the town for years (the Farmers market) already scuppered by mean spirited squabbling.
Exeter here I come - can't wait to leave this place.
