Perhaps the area could be ten pin bowling if they are not doing a skate park.

They have to build a skate park thats what the money is for. surely they must have known where it would go before asking for the money. Be a bit like asking for planning permission for a house before you bought the land. I will try again Monday.

They were awarded the money before they were granted planning permission. They were subsequently given planning permission but with various provisos.

Thats illogical.Who are making these provisos what are they? I thought everyone council kids etc wanted a skate park. What happens to the money a. if the park is not built in time b. if it is never built Does anyone know where it is proposed to be.

As far as I am aware planning permission was granted for the skate park to be built on Sandy Lane Playing Fields very near to where the sports pavilion is. As trees need to be cut down in order for it to be built I think replacement trees needed to be planted by DAY before work on the skatepark could begin.

If the skatepark isn't built or started to have been built by a certain time then I understand that the monies from the lottery fund have to be returned.

lets hope the money gets returned to the lottery committee. the last thing we need in dawlish is a skate park to attract more degenerates to the area. these louts have caused no end of problems to us in dawlish with their loud banging, foul language and graffiti blighting the area. i say either build one out of town, or better still in the middle of the english channel. when will people learn that this kind of thing is not welcome in this town. and before the wet lefties come on and say "but the kids have nothing to do" - well knuckle down and do some homework, or dangle a rod in the sea for pity sake.

Kids used to play knock down ginger now they get done for harassment they climb trees get done for vandalism. For you to have such a low opinion of youth you must either be jealous because you have lost your or a bad one

I am not rude or a vandal when I skateboard on the lawn I do no harm I have been hit by a walking stick sworn at and been threatened with the police,. I am doing very well in school and am going to uni. My mum uses this site until now I never have. Myself and friends cannot wait to get out of this town it has nothing to offer us only critism I am 16 hope to do well in life like most of my friends. There are no jobs here only care homes or holiday jobs. You may hate the youth yet we are the future I am an articulate well educated 16 year old instead of driving us out you should embrace us. when you are old you will need someone yonger to look after you.

I have just been in touch with Teignbridge and have been told the skate park is due to be started in May.
It is going to be built at the end of the cricket pitch.

Why have trees got to be planted for a skate park? Are they part of the design, I guess it would look nice.

Teresa Green

The trees aren't being planted FOR the skatepark but BECAUSE of it.

Five trees are to be felled!!!! to make way for the skate park. They are the trees one side of the avenue of trees leading up to/away from the sports pavilion.

Because these trees are being sacrificed DAY have to plant others in compensation.

Does anyone know where the saplings are to be planted and what type of tree they are?

Well I'm lost, why do trees need to be planted if they are not needed for the skate park?

Teresa Green

The trees need to be planted because right now planet earth needs more trees not less. They help to lessen the effects of global warming.

Thus, if trees are removed others have to be planted in their place. I just wish that:

1. the trees didn't need to be felled in the first place and that

2. if they must be felled then twice their number should be planted as recompense.

They shouldnt fell any trees for the skate park a case of bad planning? Can anyone enlighten me as to why the cut back the willow trees on the brook thought they put the pavement in to side step them

this whole thing is typical of this idiotic council we have in place here. i have yet to speak to anyone living in this direct area that wants the damn thing built in the first place. only the wet lefties that reside away from here are for it (probably so they can get their children out of their hair and into ours). if they want this kind of thing please relocate to teignmouth or exmouth.

you contradict yourself olive. if there are too many against these things being done, then surely it is you and your cronies that are obviously in the minority and should consider your position as a dawlish resident. i am fed up of paying extortionate taxes to provide for these rediculous projects. in my day we were quite happy to put a couple of jumpers down for a goal post and play football in the field, or dangle a rod and line along parsons. i really dont think some people realise the noise pollution these skate parks create. oh, and when they get bored of this childish past time, im sure they will find the concrete just perfect for smashing their alcopops bottles on. Give me strength.

Where will the pollution come from ?walk down the strand breathe in the car fumes thats pollution when you are old and in a care home or care in our own home you will need someone younger than you to provide you with that care, Get real we live in the 21st century

Have you had a bad experience with kids Bob? as you really seem to have a problem with them!
I dont think you ever were one yourself, maybe you were born, oppinionated and sad. You really need to get out more and get a life of your own rather than trying to ruin others enjoyment.

these are the kind of degenerate remarks i have come to expect from some of the idiots who ruin this forum by posting on it. I merely express the thoughts of myself and the many people i socialise with on a daily basis. Many years ago there was an asylum in the starcross area. I think some of the occupants were rehoused here. I find it dismaying that no one has replied to my very intellectual points with an ounce of civility or common sense. I might suggest that dawlishboy returns to his primary school lessons before he goes completely off the rails (or onto them if i had my way).

Let me assure you Bob that i am not an idiot or come from the asylum! I am a respectable parent and i like many other people on this site would like to see something done to help keep youngsters off the street, whatever it may be, maybe you were the one that has been rehomed here from the asylum!

Hey, don't worry about Bob. He is probably one of those people who complained about the skaters skating outside their houses, but is now moaning that they skate park is being built. Can't win really can they. Although I must say that I know the majority of people in Dawlish definitely support this project, and that is obvious, because we won the vote. So, I cant wait for this to be built, and I know my son cant either, and I will be assured that he will be in a safe place this summer and that means a lot. Looking forward to it. We are very lucky to have this funding and should be grateful and I know the majority of us are.

Hi there My wife is part of the Dawlish Action for Youth and has helped relentlessly with the hard work needed to enable the skate park to go ahead what people dont seem to realise is how slowly things take to get going yes its been 4 months now since Dawlish won the vote ok so it has but things like the correct contracts with Teignbridge have to be signed etc its no good building then discovering you havent covered all that and belive me Tdc dont move very fast just look at the MANOR Gardens play area which has been prommised to be fixed by TDC last week and we are still waiting. Those who are against the skate park get over it they won the vote its needed its happening just because its not your thing is though theres enough for the older moaning croanies like bob to do without implying that skaters and those alike are all bad!

thats just typical of you mr smith. no respect for the older generation who have lived and breathed dawlish all their lives. once again your left wing lily livered views have surfaced. i have had rumblings with you in the past but didnt realise you were now polluting this forum. i think i will stop posting on here now so i dont have to read your nonsensical ideas. good day to you.

That's a really good idea Bob, why dont you stop posting on here, when all you can post are negative comments. The skate park was voted for by the whole of the community, young and old, and we know the skaters have the support of lots of age groups in Dawlish. I have lived in Dawlish all my life (40+ yrs) so definitely consider myself a Dawlish person, so please just stop being so negative, it has happened and we won the vote, so you should be rejoicing, or if not, just dont say anything. I think its great that kids will have some sort of facility and that it was won from a lottery grant, so doesnt cost the council a penny. Bye bye!!

I am guessing that you have no experience of living in an area that has one of these parks. The theory of it is nice ie it will be a lovely brightly coloured area for the kids to play in. i am afraid it is time you woke up and smelt the coffee (if of course you want to). For starters they produce an unacceptable noise nuisance for the decent people who live in the nearby area (no problem of course for the parents who live further afield and voted this thing in). In the evenings they will attract the older teenagers who will bring their various modern day vices with them, drink, drugs and unsavoury loutish behaviour. I make no apologies for always being negative on this subject, but if you took the time to read other postings I have made on the subject of Dawlish you would realise I am far from negative on the possible future of Dawlish. I wonder also how many parents will see this as an opportunity to pack their children off for the evening so they will have time to themselves rather than spending the time interacting with them. And that doesn't mean sitting them in front of their playstations.
fond regards
bob

And I suppose your solution Bob would be to cull all teenagers, children and young people from Dawlish, leaving it for the over 40s. Alternatively, I'd guess you'd give them a hoop and stick and tell them to be grateful for that.

The children are here, the children are bored. Give them a chance.

Fair enough sir. I will bring this posting back up in a years time and hope with all my heart that I have egg on my face. We will see then whether there has been any reports of the unsavoury behaviour I have mentioned taking place. If there is then I hope the people that have voted it in will assist in its demolition. Fairs fair.

Well Bob all I can say it is time you found something more in your life to moan about. This skate park is happening, whether you like it or not, and whether you want to believe it, actually the majority of Dawlish voted and do want it. Can I ask, were you young once??? Not all young people are louts and should not be without because of the minority of young people who are. Think about the majority of young people and please stop focusing on the negative. By the way, the park will have soundproof barriers up to help prevent the noise. By I dont suppose that will matter to you anyway will it....

I think the Skate park should have been on the lawn or Manor they are such fun to watch.
What have we got on the lawn booring bowls

There is less chance of the skaters being injured in a properly made skate setting than down town, where they go at the moment because of no facilities, where there are cars, elderly people and tourists to avoid. I thought you should be happy they have somewhere to go and are not 'under your feet'!!
