10/2009 Dawlish Pedestrianised Dawlish Gazetta

Extra Extra Read all about it.

Local representative, unelected, ticketed 6,000 houses and has succeeded in pedestrianising Dawlish.

Area of Greenbelt on side of Dawlish to be bulldozed. Dawlish to lose trade as holidaymakers at Warren go elsewhere. Town Round Circle in dispair.

At a town council meeting attended by a large number of people from around the town, milked for attention by the absence of the two main supermarkets now vying to be built here, opinions were lodged and overturned by the low response to the 6,000 letters sent by the representative to all houses in the area.

These letters were disproportionally percentage point rated according to the low response of return and comments contrary to the local , unelected, representatives point of view omitted.

It happened in Newton Abbot with TESCO Kingsteignton Road, ASDA Clock Tower, Sainsburys Penn Inn and Iceland town centre. Over twenty businesses shut down in the building and after road removal authorised and encouraged by the local representative and councillors. Now all that remains is charity shops, estate agents and the occasional cafe.

It could happen to you. Bulldozers are coming, people who are holiday makers are running elsewhere and the Warren markets are closing down before them, undercut. And PCSOs increase with the Council cameras to keep order, despatched by a rise in the Council Tax for any opinion the local representatives would not consider.

I've read that posting several times. Did YOU before you pressed the 'okay' button and posted it. What a ramble. Could you put it in plain and understandable english please?
I take it, it is an anti supermarket/building houses rant but as I'm not sure I'd be obliged if you could be clearer.

I went to Newton yesterday. The town and the market were very busy and unless I need glasses there is a good variety of shops. I didnt see any that were closed down.Yes there is about 8 charity shops,so what they are doing a good job and give value for money.
Teignmouth is pedestrianised and it hasnt caused a problem just the opposite.Shopping with no exhaust fumes has got to be an advatage People holiday in Dawlish for the beach not driving around.
Why are people opposed to any change we live in the 21`st centuary and must move on

The Strand would be much better with no cars. Where have the Traffic Wardens gone?

Teignmouth is always busy. I think the reason maybe the good selection of shops.
there have been quite a few new shops opened recently and soon the spec savers are to open, Is it any wonder you meet more Dawlish people shopping in Teignmouth than you do in Dawlish!
Yes I think the answer is we do need to move with the times!

I heard that a private company is putting traffic wardens in Dawlish and teignmouth in March. Its a shame to see Dawlish going down heel when as you say Teignmouth is thriving

I wouldn't say Teignmouth is thriving, would you? Quite down at heel in some places.

It has a larger shopping area than Dawlish, but Newton A's is larger than Teignmouth's and Exeter's larger than Newton A's.

Perhaps the number and variety of shops is a big attraction. In which case little Dawlish cannot possibly compete. That's why it needs to carve out a niche market.

Teignmouth is thriving, what do you suggest the "niche" market should be

A market for niches of course

Okay please explain.
1. Why Teignmouth is thriving
2. Why Dawlish isn't

(which isn't to say that I agree with either of those statements)

I live happily in Dawlish not care about the probs cause they not interfere with my life cause I shop out of town but Teignmouth is thriving its always busy & one can buy anything when I first moved to Dawlish(1957) could buy clothes Hitchns even had a male retail outlet called Fosters etc. Would really like to know what this niche Dawlish is about. We have a fantastic Artist called Brian Steffens yet the town has given him a cold shoulder he is the best "nich" we will ever have

Is strange .. but rest assured if anyone is brave to start a new shop locals will stand back and wait for it to go down, thank goodness for tourists. Of course the shop be expected to have collection boxes for various town fund raising.

Agree with Wondering. Strand would be much better pedestrianised. As it is we have to breathe in all those traffic fumes, look out for car doors opening, etc. Incredibly unpleasant shopping experience, no wonder most people go elsewhere! Did anyone hear when we are getting the town centre plan that was being undertaken by Yellow Book and is it being discussed with residents?

THE TRAFFIC WARDENS WERE MADE REDUNDANT BY DEVON AND CORNWALL POLICE TO MAKE WAY FOR PCSOs PARKING REGULATIONS WILL CHANGE ON 01/04/08 WHEN PARKING ON STREET WILL BE PRIVATISED AND EITHER PUT IN THE HANDS OF DEVON COUNTY COUNCIL OR NCP THE HOLIDAY MAKERS WILL LOVE THAT NOTHING LIKE A CLAMPER TO GET RID OF PEOPLE

Cameras would be easier .. if they should not park, record the number plate and time and just post a fine. I see double yellow lines are ignored at the moment.

They own a very large cleaning buisiness that they started up from nothing but hard work, they also own a few houses. There are a lot of people who slag them off when really they are envious

Woh! woh! woh!
There is nothing wrong with success providing it is done on a level playing field.
Take the blinkers off, look deeper and you will probably find success steeped in corruption.

Maori chef takes up a new post at a posh new restaurant, the owners tell him to make up his own menu.

White man toasted $10, black man boiled $20, politician grilled $100.
First customer asks why politicians are so much more expensive, well said the chef, they are so full of shit that they take longer to clean than the others.
It is the political fabric of this town that needs to be kept a close watch on, understand that and you will understand the apparent success.
