If we are to have a supermarket in the area does it have to be Tesco or Sainsburys why not a Liddels they are a no frills shop offering the same quality at a much lower price. Once the debate is settled about where the supermarket will be built lets then decided who we want, its our town it shouldnt be left up to a bunch of councillors who only have self interest

Bit of a problem in that Sainsbury's already own the land out at Shutterton Bridge. Don't think they would hand it over to Lidl's somehow do you?

For starters it is Lidl's, and to be honest who would really want to buy food from a foreign supermarket. At least in Tesco's or Sainsbury's you don't need a phrase book to understand what you are buying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't let the councillors hear you say that, they are very touchy when they are reminded who they work for.
As long as they have their snout in the trough, the general public do not exist.

Consumer, I don't think it is inverted snobbery that Anon suffers from more like xenophobia along with some others who contribute to this site . Look at some of the comments on other threads to see what I mean.

Because the adverts are content-sensitive! The ads pick up what the page is about and put adverts up related to it.

Advertising technology at its best...

I see the ad today is for National Debt Helpline. Does that say something about the target consumer group for Lidl I wonder?

"the difference between Lidl and Aldi is they are low key the food is the same"

Sorry, I'm confused as to what you mean. Can you rephrase that please.

And.....I have to say, that wherever I have seen Lidl and Aldi shops the areas have been poor.

Lidl and Aldi have the same produce as Tesco etc. Odd you have only seen them in poor areas there is one in Exeter with Tesco as a neighbour. If they are put in poor places its because those people are not worried about how the food is displayed only want value for money also isnt dawlish a "poor" place

Meh if the ads are content sensitive why are there ads for Muslim dating?

Dawlish needs good PR to "talk it up". Hence Waitrose better than Sainsbury, Sainsbury better than Tesco, Tesco better than Somerfield, Somerfield better than Aldi & Lidl.
