A bid to scrap traffic calming measures demanded in the planning permission of the youth training centre in Sandy Lane has sparked concerns. The £2.5 million project is nearing completion. A condition imposed by councillors is that the building cannot be occupied until traffic calming has been put place on the road outside. Highways officers at County Hall have measured the speed of passing traffic and suggested that at approximately 28mph, it is not high enough to warrant the measure. Residents have already started to object to the removal of the condition relating to traffic calming, reasons being given, vehicles being driven at higher speeds than they should also confusion as to who has the right away leading to the Leisure Centre. The matter is before planning officers for consideration.
