I am up north for christmas in a town about the same size as Dawlish. Here they have collection boxes in every retail outlet collecting money to improve childrens play areas,(the council are not involved) In another small village they have raised enough money to build one why cant people of Dawlish do the same.I am sure the carnival committee would allocate some money if asked. Its important we get one back its a fun way of excercise for kids and they learn social skills

Seems to me more people are concerned about a supermarket than about real issues like having a replacement play park for children

Everyone is to busy moaning about Tescos that noone is paying attention to us! Fair enough we're getting a skate park, but what about us girls that don't want to go skateboarding?! And there's nothing being done about the park that's been burnt down at the manor...Why don't the government stop worrying about tesco's and help us teenagers......People moan about people our age out drinking and doing drugs and smoking,(not that i do either of them) well what do you expect? There's nothing for people our age to do.

quote 'There's nothing for people our age to do.'

Do you have a computer ?
Do you have books ?
Do you have a talent ?
Can you Sing / drama / learn music ?
Can you draw / design / paint / write ?
The Library will help with any of the above.

Think on those who would like to do those things and cannot for either they cant see, hear, read or walk. then say 'There's nothing for people our age to do.'
There is something you can do.

You have a youth club the leisure center and the beach. The original thread was the people funding a kiddies playpark maybe if you said what teenagers needed that could be funded as well.the townspeople must take responsibility and not rely on goverment or council handouts all the time, the less they put in the less they can have to say

Saw on the local news today the play park at the manor is set to be replaced.
Also it's going to have special facilities for disabled children.

Thats fine, is the arsonist who set fire to the last park paying, or is it, I suspect the local tax payer

For all of you who have commented on this here are the facts::

I am the chair of what is know as Dawlish Manor Play park committee
we have worked very hard to put pressure on TDC the last few months to get the play park equipment replaced at a cost of £26,100 which tdc is funding as someone righlty said this was on the news the committee also want to add more facilites and make it more disabled friendly but to do this we need help we currently only have four active committee members therefore we need more if you want to see more in your park.
TDC may own the site but its your park! If you want to see more done come and help as four people working full time and spending hours after work and evenings can only achive as much as they try if you think you can help in anyway then email me ring me or write to me if one person in every family in Dawlish helped out it would only take you maybe 15 Mins a month? like I said if your a resident of Dawlish its your park tell us what you would like to see how you can help get involved dont lie back and think everyone else will do it as the sad realitly is they wont so get in contact 07976549574 or 01626 866846 email castlefordhouse@hotmail.com

Forgive me if you have already tried these potential avenues of help/advice. But off the top of my head -

1. Have you tried contacting all the schools in Dawlish? By that I mean the two primary and one secondary plus the two special needs schools. (Don't think there are any more). Kids might have some ideas? Perhaps the schools would highlight issue in their newsletters to parents?

2. Have you tried contacting the local newspaper to see if they can help run campaign for you?

3. Have you tried contacting Dawlish Chamber of Commerce to see if they can i. Help highlight issue and ii. Perhaps put up posters in shop windows etc.

4. Have you tried contacting DAY (Dawlish Action for Youth). They might be able to help on how to raise funds plus they should have a pool of labour (Dawlish Youth) who might want to help you out?

5. Have you tried contacting Bovis/Cavanna Homes (they are the ones who want to do the residential development up by Gatehouse Primary school) to see if they can help in anyway?

6. What about local church congregations?

7. Local girl guides, scouts etc?

If I think of anymore I'll post them.

Other ways of collecting money. Have a collection box in every retail outlet, you would be surprised how much money these generate. Ask the carnival commity. Was the old play park insured for damage?

The park was not insured as TDC are self insuring this is a very complicated thing but makes sense when you look into it.

Most of the issues seasaw has raised have been tried all the schools where contacted the secondry where not intrestd out off approx 300 questionnaires sent out to both primarys there was about 136 from westcliff returned and only 50 approx from gatehouse. The local press and wescountry and gemini have both publisced this issue.

I need more people to come and help back the committee thats the essential part I will push untill we get what we need but please dont lie back and think everyone else is doing something to sort the problem! call me if you can help 01626 866846 or email castlefordhouse@hotmail.com
