Dawlish Discussion

Now that it is railway line smashing season at Dawlish, my mind wonders back to speculation about a railway line from Exeter to Newton Abbot and thus avoiding the coast and the associated damage. Does anyone have any more information on this interesting rumour.

Hi! I heard that rumor, too and I didn't like it. I'm afraid they will rip up the coastal line altogether. This should not happen. It's part of the history of Dawlish, the Great Western, and above all my vivid childhood memories. An alternative route for winter - fine, but they should let us have the beautiful route for the summer!
