Co-option of a Town Councillor

Following the resignation of a former Councillor, a casual vacancy was created on the Town Council.

As not enough statutory requests were made to the Proper Officer to fill the vacancy by election, the Town Council can now proceed to co-opt an eligible person to fill the vacancy.  You can put yourself forward by completing the above application and eligibility form.

Both forms must be completed and returned to the Town Clerk, Dawlish Town Council, Old Town Street, Dawlish, EX7 9AP or by emailing andrew.mckenzie@dawlish.gov.uk by noon on Friday, 25 October 2024.

Eligibility Requirements

So long as you meet the following criteria, you can put yourself forward for co-option

  • You are over 18 years of age on the day of nomination
  • You are a British citizen, an eligible Commonwealth citizen, citizen of the Republic of Ireland, a qualifying EU citizen or an EU citizen with retained rights.

and you meet at least one of the following:

(a)  You are registered as a local government elector in the Parish of Dawlish
(b)  You have occupied as owner or tenant any land in the Parish of Dawlish for the whole of the preivous 12 months
(c)  You have lived in the Parish of Dawlish (or within 4.8km of its boundary) for the whole of the previous 12 months
(d)  You have had your main or only place of work in the Parish of Dawlish for the whole of the previous 12 months
