I have just been reliably informed from the Council that a project for a skate park facility in Dawlish has been short listed to receive a National Lottery Grant of over 90,000 pounds. It is proposed that the skate park will be part of an integrated facility, not only for young people, but the whole community when the new adjacent centre is opened. This is fantastic news for Dawlish and please can I encourage you to VOTE FOR DAWLISH on Westcountry News on MONDAY 26TH NOVEMBER at 6 PM. Dawlish are competing for the grant against a project in North Devon, so we need as many votes as possible to obtain this brilliant chance. This is not only good news for the young people of Dawlish but also for the residents who have been complaining of the skaters using their streets, etc, as they have nowhere else to skate. The skaters are being filmed at the Sandy Lane Leisure Centre next Tuesday and please can you encourage people to go along and support them. The filming will take place between 2.30 and 5 pm next Tuesday 6 November. This can only be good news for everyone in Dawlish and may be our ONLY CHANCE. This surely will encourage the Council to commence work on the new centre which will be adjacent to the skate park and for which they have 150k already allocated. PLEASE PLEASE TELL YOUR FAMILY, FRIENDS AND NEIGHBOURS TO VOTE ON MONDAY 26 NOVEMBER.
Sorry for the long post.

I noticed there is a small piece on the front page of the Dawlish Post this week. I havent seen the Gazette yet, so don't know if its in there. I know there are flyers being made up to be posted around Dawlish about it and was also told it would be big news in the papers, so I am hoping next week it will be given the coverage it duly deserves. This is such a needed facility and I can only hope that the people of Dawlish get behind this project and vote, because I think this is probably the only chance the skaters have of obtaining this facility. Thats why I posted on here to try and start to spread the word.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I know, I was thinking that myself. I just can't understand it - this really is an excellent opportunity for the young people of Dawlish and nobody 'seems' to want to know. I sincerely hope this is not the case. It is strange how so many complaints regarding skateboarders skating outside peoples' homes, etc, have been posted on this site and yet none to support this facility, which would stop this!!! Maybe people just like to complain - I hope not. Lots of young dreams will be shattered if this doesnt happen.

The people I have spoken to are very supportive and keen to see it happen.

Perhaps it's just a case of only negative issues here attracting comments and the positive are received with a smile and a nod of the head!!!
